Chris Columbus—a director whose films many of us have surely seen as children. He’s the one who brought us the first three “Harry Potter” movies and, of course, the “Home Alone” duology. Let’s take a look back at one of his less well-known works—though it’s no less high-quality for that.

“Mrs. Doubtfire” is a family comedy of manners with elements of drama. The plot is fairly simple. The main character disguises himself as a sweet nanny so he can be close to his children after his divorce. Perhaps some parts seem rather trite and clichéd now. But personally, I was pleased by the moral of the story. It wasn’t quite what I had imagined. However, this moral is probably closer to reality than my expectations.

Humor is a very subjective thing. That’s why it’s hard for me to write anything about it. I can only say that there were moments when I smiled.

This movie would probably have gotten lost among the family comedies of the ’90s without its leading star—Robin Williams. I’ll never tire of singing the praises of this remarkable actor. In every movie of his that I’ve seen, he performed at the very highest level. After watching it, it feels as though Robin Williams is your old friend, ready to support you in a tough moment. As strange as it may sound, in him, optimism and a sense of humor are somehow miraculously combined with melancholy. I’ve strayed a bit from the topic. Robin Williams is the one who evokes most of the positive emotions in *Mrs. Doubtfire*. It would take a lot of effort to play a grandmother that convincingly. He’s no Alexander Revva…

“Mrs. Doubtfire” is a very sweet, heartwarming movie. Of course, it won’t surprise you with a twisty plot or brilliant jokes. People don’t rewatch it as often as, say, *Home Alone*. But it helps you return to your carefree childhood for a couple of hours… If you missed this movie back in the day, I recommend catching up on it.
