Review 4K Movie

After watching some Gregg Araki films in preparation and to understand his vision, I headed out to see I Want Your Sex with great anticipation. This was heightened by my love of Cooper Hoffman and my great impression of Olivia Wilde in The Invite. And I was disappointed. This movie was all over the place. I guess it's trying to be a sex comedy but there were hardly any laughs. The addition of a few cartoon animation moments didn't land. And then, the momentum and tone would shift dramatically when Olivia Wilde would enter into some long, monotonous, monologue about sexual dynamics and politics. Olivia Wilde, in a horrible wig, never looked less appealing. And while everyone else has a stylized look, Cooper Hoffman's shlubby appearance and supposed desire to work around contemporary art makes no sense. And finally, for a supposed movie about BDSM, it seemed as inauthentic as it could get. If it weren't for Cooper Hoffman turning in another great performance as an actor, I would probably give this an even lower rating. I had such high hopes, especially after seeing Araki's Mysterious Skin, which is a powerful and artistic film. I guess all those years in television took away his edge.
