Story Movie

The responsibility for caring for six-year-old Lilo Pelekai falls on her older sister Nani. Nani has to work and study a lot, so the girl is often left alone. One day, a neighbor suggests that she adopt a dog from a shelter to help the girl cope with her loneliness. However, Lilo brings home a cute alien instead of a dog from the shelter. The girl names her new pet Stitch, but on his home planet he was called Experiment 626. He is a fugitive from the galactic police and a product of genetic experiments, distinguished by his tendency toward destruction, his ability to learn quickly, and his near-invulnerability.

Review 4K Movie

Since this story is a remake (often step-by-step), it would be impossible to do without references to the 2002 cartoon, which I like very much.

The film begins almost the same way as its predecessor. The United Galactic Federation imprisons the brilliant scientist Jumbo and the illegal result of his genetic experiments — Object 626. Jumbo is imprisoned, 626 is escorted, he escapes and, by a twist of fate, ends up on a small Hawaiian island, where the events unfold. The plot is clear, familiar, and does not raise any major questions, as it is very similar to the 2002 cartoon.

The further development of events is also similar to the cartoon, so I will not go into detail, but will try to share my emotions and thoughts about the implementation.

Visual component. The film is well made. The graphics are not outstanding or groundbreaking, of course, but they are not off-putting. Everything is of a good average standard. As for the costumes and sets, in my opinion, they are also quite adequate. I can't say much more than that.

Music. Unobtrusive, there's nothing to say about it.

Characters. This is where the problems begin. For starters, the film features a rather intrusive woman who is David's mother. She appears at the very beginning of the film and then pops up periodically throughout. The character is not developed in any way and is added for the sole purpose of helping to realize one of the ideas that the creators put into the film. I really didn't like the filmmakers' approach to Jamba and Nani. Unlike in the original cartoon, Jamba became more of a villain than a genius scientist. Given his lack of motivation, he came across as a rather clichéd villain and was not interesting. It seems that he was an even more profound character in the cartoon.

Nani, in turn, is, in my opinion, the main problem with the film. Not only does her behavior throughout the film create the image of a weak, hurt girl, which completely contradicts her image in the original cartoon, but Nana's actions at the end of the film destroy everything the plot was leading up to. For me, the cartoon Lilo & Stitch has always been an example of a wonderful, heartwarming story about the importance of family. 'Ohana means family'. This principle is completely refuted by the actions of one of the main characters in this film.

The narrative. It got worse, to put it briefly. Everything that the 2002 cartoon managed to convey neatly and unobtrusively, the 2025 film throws right in your face. While watching, I felt like I was being treated like an idiot. I understand that the film is aimed primarily at a children's audience. But why, in the name of the Brothers Grimm, was a cartoon released almost a quarter of a century earlier able to convey the same ideas more successfully?

The result is yet another soulless product from the Disney assembly line. The atmosphere, the charm of the characters, the emotionality, the brightness of the images. It falls short in all these aspects. If it were a standalone work, I would say it turned out pretty well. But when there is such an original, I don't understand why anyone would want to watch this pitiful imitation.
