While crayfishing, teenager David Morgan meets his new neighbor, 16-year-old Megan, who lives with her 10-year-old sister, Susan, in the Chandler household. Mrs. Chandler, whom the children call Ruth, is not a good mother. She has three sons whom she allows to drink beer and sometimes has lewd conversations with them.

Megan and Susan have a difficult life at Aunt Ruth's house. They are forced to endure beatings and humiliation from family members. Meg can't stand it and reports it to the sheriff, for which Ruth decides to teach her a lesson.

When they warn you from the first shots that the film is based on true events, in principle you expect to see them, not a free adaptation of Ketcham's book, which itself only remotely conveys the real facts. So this remark, presented as a 'tear gas', so effective on our gullible viewer, is made for one purpose, as are many other 'true movies'.

I don't know about the others, but I don't understand why Davey could only find time to talk to his parents once, in the middle of the night, and he never told them anything! That's a load of crap. Put yourself in his shoes and think about what each of you would have done. Tell someone right away, do something about it. And he put the money under the rock - bravo, boy!!! Might as well accuse him of being involved in Meg's death.

And anyway, what were we shown other than humiliation, infernal torture? What did that poor girl feel besides physical pain? All the abuse, of her, of her sister, the boys with their hair coiffed, the streams of beer, the comparison of lobsters and crawfish, and only at the very end did they wait for a policeman - that's the whole movie.

And where is the ground that has been trampled by the woman, day after day, step by step, preparing her diabolical plan; where is the state of the sisters after the death of their parents; where are any examples of the kind of 'parenting' after which children become so callous and capable of doing such things? Everything suddenly happens and develops at breakneck speed. But in that case, it's just a shift in frames of violence, and nothing between the lines.
