Department of Homeland Security operative Tim Ballard is disillusioned with the system - for years he has been tracking down and catching pedophiles, but has not rescued a single child from the clutches of slave traffickers. Tim gains the trust of a recently caught child porn distributor, convinces him that he is "one of his own", and an eight-year-old boy is brought to him from Mexico. Little Miguel becomes the first released of the many children sold into sexual slavery in Latin America, and Tim decides to find his little sister by all means.

The scandalous film directed by Alejandro Montnverde is produced by the independent company Angel, the distributor in this case managed to buy the rights to the film, which now gives a chance to legally watch the sensational film in the theater. So, “The Sound of Freedom,” which had a budget of just under $15,000,000, grossed over $200,000,000 at the worldwide box office. The film gathered a lot of feedback, attracted fans of conspiracy theories, attracted criticism in the U.S. and not only, accusations of manipulativeness from them, but also a generally positive audience response, which is expressed in high ratings on various film resources, with an actual rating of 7.6.

According to the plot, the main character is engaged in the search for pedophiles. The prototype of the hero, Tim Ballard, first worked in the CIA, after moving to work in the DHS. After, in 2013, Ballard created his own structure, Operation 'Underground Railroad', which is still operating today, which began to fight human trafficking, including the fight against sex trafficking. Actually, including the stage of Ballard's transition from working for the DHS to creating his own structure is told in the movie. Of course, the organizational part of the film touches rather indirectly, delivering its emotional components to the viewer, but the transformation of the hero looks quite reasonable. The search for the sister of the boy found earlier in the story turns out to be a plunge into darkness (in every sense, the most intense action unfolds under the cover of night). Everything that happens has a strong enough religious context that director Alejandro Monteverde's film is imbued with it on many different levels, starting with a film company with the title Angel, James Caviezel in the title role, who played Christ in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, an actor known for his religiosity, and Mel Gibson himself as one of the producers. Religion is here in the music, in some places referring to the church choir, and in the real prototype of the hero of the movie - Timothy Bellard, whose name relates him to St. Timothy (aka, as it is emphasized in the movie, Timoteo).

The movie is characterized by excellent picture and excellent work of the cameraman, and the structure of the movie can be divided into two parts, of which the first one is characterized by some didacticism and viscosity, against the background of which the transformation of the main character takes place, and the second one is more about action, with references to “Apocalypse Now” and, in some places, to “The Killer”.

In general, “The Sound of Freedom” leaves a pleasant impression and, as they write in movie reviews, really “makes you think”. To think not only about the main theme of the movie, but also about how, against the backdrop of everyday modern boiling life, terrible things can happen that are almost invisible to the eye.
