Producer James Ballard and his wife Catherine are erotic adventurers. Both have another passion - for cars. One day, James has a terrible accident. In the clinic, he meets the victim of this accident, Helen and her friend Voen.

So begins the assimilation of James and Katherine of new sensations: sexual arousal from beating machines and injured bodies.

I saw this film in the 'recommendations' from 'Sex, lies and videos' and the poster with the incredible James Spader 'persuaded' me not to watch. Despite the fact that Cronenberg, in principle, is not my director, the themes of his films have never been close to me, and despite the fact that I never had a “stomach” to look at the metamorphoses of the body and what Cronenberg does with his characters.

I must say, I didn’t see a stranger movie, and my first thought after watching it was what a person wouldn’t do for the sake of a peak of pleasure. But this is not the only point. The main character here is a car. A car as a symbol of power, an icon, a way to achieve an orgasm, a call of death, with each circle of participants less and less, and those who remain are disappointed. 'Next time' - the phrase of James Ballard at the end of the film perfectly describes the situation.

There is a lot of sex in the film, sex is everywhere, everywhere, with everyone, in every broken car, with every 'broken' hero. I don’t want to say anything about acting, except for the already mentioned Spader, who, together with Koteas, made this film their madness, dissatisfaction, and death drive. With this Freudian concept, I would define the whole action.

To watch it you need - a certain mood, loneliness, tolerance for same-sex relationships and a desire to discern something more than 'porn' with James Spader.

And of course, one of the most important criteria for me in the movie is music. Here she is on top, special thanks to Shore for the musical accompaniment of this self-destruction.
