Story Movie

In the American city of New Rome, architect Cesar Catilina, a Nobel Prize winner and head of a design bureau who can stop time, is designing an ideal future metropolis where everyone will be happy. He plans to build it with his own invention of the magic material megalon. Mayor Cicero actively opposes this approach and Caesar himself, but the mayor's daughter Julia first becomes fascinated by Catilina's projects and then by him.

Review 4K Movie

Utopia, which unites many sprawling small towns, suffers from disconnected people. Caesar is an architect and a very controversial figure in the politics and development of the city. To some residents he is a deceiver, to others a false prophet, but he does not consider himself one. Hoping to change the city for the better and improve the lives of its citizens, he is opposed by rivals who are more powerful and dangerous.

Actors: Coppola has assembled an attractive ensemble of actors, and we can already say that this is a very bold decision of the author. Who could be imagined in the place of these actors over several decades of making this great movie of the master? Each character has his own character and habits. Each of them pulls the blanket on himself. Someone has a duty and obligation to preserve the honor and dignity of the former ideals of the world. Someone is prone to self-destruction and ready to profit from power, and there is Caesar...

Caesar Catalina, played by Adam Driver, is a dreamer and architect of the future, secretly possessing the ability to stop time and the gift of divination. Delving deeper into his initial story, one can understand the character's motivations to evolve and make the future come true today. He denies the laws of the modern world because of his disillusionment with it. He has enemies who do not want drastic changes, and do everything possible to prevent him.

Giancarlo Esposito does an excellent job of playing the role of Franklin Cicero. I would not say that he is an antagonist, rather he is a character who doubts new ideas and regrets many things in his heart. In the second half of the movie, the mayor of the city receives news that could lead him on a new path. However, the character is unwilling to change and change the city for the sake of dystopian plans, but is willing to go to any lengths to protect his family. It's nice to see the transformation of a character who trusted and opened up to new ideas at the last minute.

It's nice to have Shia LaBeouf back in a serious movie. His character brings so much tartness in a barrel of honey, although he can't do without serious support, because his character is a very weak revolutionary, but he does everything for personal gain. Aubrey Plaza keeps him company. She looks lovely, but her character is not different from the other bitches that she has played throughout her career. The shell has changed, but the substance remains.

It's a shame that the movie only features a cameo by Laurence Fishburne. Even though he is featured on the poster and his character is promoted so heavily as if he played a significant role in the story. Morpheus is not on you!

Jon Voight was finally given a pretty good role and a very significant one at that. A terrific actor, even now. His character surprised with his pretense to his nephew in the finale. Didn't know you could shoot a regular bow like that, though it's a movie effect!

Everything else: 45 years ago, the Palme d'Or-winning film Apocalypse Now came out. Since then, Francis Ford Coppola has nurtured the idea of his utopian story long and hard. The picture could have been released in the early twenty-first century, but the events of September 11 prevented this, and he was also busy with other artistic projects. This time he earned a seven-minute ovation and applause from the audience at Cannes and at least a nomination.

The director tells us bluntly: this is a revolution in the world of cinema and life. The filmmakers are trying to reinvent the wheel in filmmaking. Coppola's movie is an event in the world of crazy abstraction. The tape does not seek to clearly visualize reality, but rather uses hints. It has its flaws as well. Dialogues in the movie are so archaic that sometimes they sound like Shakespearean phrases, and sometimes they are spoken slowly and without rhythm. However, it is the idea that is fresh: to deliver a simple thought, relevant from long ago, that can take on a new breath.

There are a few points that confuse me greatly. The first and most obvious is the ending. Of course, I realize that if Coppola had made this movie 20 years ago, there would be no complaints about it, but now it looks ambiguous. On the other hand, he brings his fresh idea to the table. Watching the characters is interesting, especially their crazy actions in their struggle for power or a place under the sun. However, sometimes there are strange phrases between them that clearly won't make it into the world's quotations. Some of them speak in verse or quote passages from famous books, including the works of Shakespeare. It's hard to take in the movie. What is it about? Is it about love? No. If you think about it, it is only half about love, and the other half is devoted to philosophy and thinking about the future, which has clearly become more precious to the hero than all material goods. However, he continues to do human work and for this he receives a lot of money.

Francis in recent years has become more of a producer than a director. So you can see how he's been procrastinating on this idea for a long time, and it seems to have fermented a bit.

Impressions: This may be the craziest movie I've ever seen. I watched it out of respect for Coppola. There are many pluses to this movie, but there are also plenty of minuses. So if you find them and recognize the picture as a failure in Coppola's career, I won't judge you. For myself, I decided that the maestro's efforts to create a movie after 45 years were justified! He told us how we need to build our own future and change for the better.
