Story Movie

FBI agent Wesley Doyle is leading the investigation of a Texas serial killer known as the Hand of God. One night, a young man named Fenton Meiks comes to Doyle and claims to know the killer well. It's his younger brother Adam, and all of his crimes are just a small part of a long story. When Fenton and Adam were children, after the death of their mother, their father claims that an angel appeared to him and told him to kill demons - normal looking people who bring evil to the world.

Review 4K Movie

This is perhaps one of the most underrated thrillers in contemporary cinema. Yes, we know many thrillers on religious themes, but only in this film did I see so many provocative topics and a whole host of moral dilemmas raised. The film deserved fame if only for its originality. But apparently, fate was not on its side.

At first, the local plot seems completely simple and straightforward. Right from the start, you begin to understand that the main plot will not develop until the finale, and its central core is one huge flashback telling the story of the main character's childhood. It seems as if this approach is detrimental to the detective part of the film, as it deprives us of the opportunity to follow the police investigation.

But already during the credits, you begin to feel the gloomy and even mystical atmosphere of the film. When the children's father talks about his divine judgment, such suspense and psychological tension arise in your soul that it is absolutely impossible to tear yourself away, I swear. You sympathize with the characters, but you feel sincere hatred for their father for putting his children through such trials. But at a certain point, you begin to suspect: What if he really is a “knight of angels”? No one can give a true answer; all that remains is to wait for the end of the story.

The screenwriters and director deserve special thanks for the unconventional plot development. Believe me, viewers will have many hypotheses about the outcome, but I think no one will guess the final twist. On the other hand, the ending is not so much shocking in its unpredictability as it is in the powerful moral dilemmas that it brings to the forefront.

Since the dramatic aspect of the plot is the main focus here, the actors had to be chosen correctly. And here, director (and lead actor) Bill Paxton did not disappoint. He played the role of the deranged father of the family perfectly. Throughout the film, you experience a wide range of emotions towards his character. On the one hand, he is a loving father, but on the other, he is a psychopath who literally turns his children into killers. And then there's Matthew McConaughey. To be honest, at first I found it difficult to accept him in a dramatic role, but he managed to reveal his character with maximum dedication (especially in the ending). And the children played very well, despite their young age.

Frailty is a powerful, atmospheric, and original thriller, not without meaning and simply overflowing with suspense and psychological pressure (although there is nothing scary or gruesome on screen, not even bloody corpses are shown). And the truly unexpected ending gives the film a special flavor.
