Well, people know how to make independent films that you can watch in one sitting, forgetting about time. “You Can Count on Me” is an example of independent cinema that I enjoyed watching.

Having lost their parents in childhood, Samantha (but everyone calls her Sammy) and Terry learned what loneliness and the absence of loved ones and relatives meant. This tragic event left a mark on their future lives. Samantha is a single mother and a bank clerk in a godforsaken little town. Terry wanders around the country, finds a girl who needs money, and decides to visit his sister.

With her brother's arrival, a new boss with whom she first argues and then starts a romance, a fiancé, and a son, Sammy simply cannot keep up with what is happening in her life. She wants simple family happiness and order in her relationships with everyone. But she simply cannot keep everyone under control — Terry brings a touch of destructiveness, her son, growing up without a father, is maturing...

Family relationships are one of the most complicated things; they cannot develop according to a specific formula or have a precise pattern. It's like a pencil sketch that later turns into a painting, but when you draw, you don't know exactly what will be depicted, and even if you do, you can't always bring your idea to life.

The main idea is already in the title. Who can you rely on? Your loved ones. They may not always live up to your expectations, but you simply cannot do without them.

A good film, a good script, good actors. Any further words are simply superfluous.
