Jacob Singer returns to New York after being wounded in Vietnam. Tortured by memories of his son and the horrors of war, Jacob gradually loses his grip on reality. It turns out that his friend Louis is the only person James can count on. Things take a darker turn when he learns that his former coworkers are suffering from the same hallucinations.

It's a shame to see and hear that almost no one knows anything about this wonderful film. An excellent plot, good camerawork, the director's brilliant vision, beautiful music, and Tim Robbins' heart-wrenching performance. All of this comes together to create the most delicious pie in the world, called Jacob's Ladder.

As it happens, great movies for the brain don't make a lot of money, because everyone is used to other movies with below-the-belt jokes. There's nothing like that here. But for those who appreciate movies that make you stare blankly at the screen after the credits roll and wonder if you're alive or dead, I recommend it. A lot of movies are being made now, but few are good.

And this film isn't just good, it's excellent! It would be silly to call it a masterpiece, since I've seen The Da Vinci Code called a masterpiece a hundred times. So let everyone who appreciates this film choose their own epithet for it.
