Story Movie

An old fisherman brings Professor Yano a strange creature resembling a tadpole and casually complains that his catch has dropped sharply. Soon, the TV news shows something gigantic breaking a ship in half, and the professor's son Ken finds a resemblance to the fisherman's "tadpole." The professor and his son set out to explore the coast. They discover a giant "tadpole." Ken names the creature Hedora. Further study reveals that Hedora feeds on pollution from the bay, and small Hedora tadpoles can form into a giant Hedora, which can take any shape and even fly. Soon, the giant Hedora appears in Sagami Bay. The monster climbs onto the pipes of a local factory and, like a heavy smoker, inhales smoke from them. Godzilla challenges the new monster. People begin to die in the battle between the two titans. Who will stop the monster?

Review 4K Movie

After taking a brief break to break the mold and return to originality (Godzilla's Attack), the Japanese finally brought the franchise back to its usual and logical course of development.

The low cost of Godzilla films during this period forced the creators to improvise and think creatively. If you don't have the money for a good, high-quality production, but you have taste and a sense of style, you can fool everyone by creating a psychedelic atmosphere and style with the means at your disposal. Oh yes, psychedelia, this gaining momentum avant-garde movement, is bursting out of the film! And that's definitely a good thing!

Compared to the previous parts, a sea of mistakes has been corrected. The film has its own style and individual features, and it is very interesting to watch.

The monster is interesting and unusual. It has very unusual properties. In addition, surprisingly, it destroyed a lot of people in the film, and for no reason! And in this case, we are not talking about the indirect death of people, but a direct depiction of death! In detail (as far as the technical means of the time allowed), the decomposing bodies of people destroyed by Hedora, turning to dust, were shown. And much of what was done was in vain, I repeat. Unjustified cruelty. The deaths could have been made more logical. On the other hand, there is symbolism in the random deaths of people, which is good.

It is not surprising that against this backdrop, Godzilla simply had to be made a positive character. Even if it's not stated directly, he is completely on the side of the people here, even though the creators didn't play dumb and showed the characters' conflicting attitudes towards this issue, even though the people in the film had no illusions and gladly accepted the help of the green giant.

The rating may not be high, but I give the creators credit for the subtleties and serious themes (a return to serious and relevant topics that everyone forgot about after the first film)!

Ps. Considering the urgency and importance of the theme of environmental protection in the franchise, Darren Aronofsky, who loves this theme and even decided to break another mold by adapting the image of the biblical Noah as an environmentalist, could have been invited to the reboot (well, now, if anything, you can call on him to make sequels).
