Story Movie

Her boyfriend was killed right in front of her in the car while they were watching a movie at an outdoor theater. Justice writes poetry and has shut herself off from the world behind a wall of grief. She works at a hair salon, and all her friends tell her she needs to move on. Giving in to the persuasion of one of them, she heads to Oakland with her and two other Black guys who work as mail carriers. After long arguments and bickering, she falls in love with one of them—both find in this a remedy for their bitter past.

Review 4K Movie

After watching the director’s first film, *The Street Kids*, which really impressed me with its style, heart, and authenticity, I unconsciously had certain expectations for this film as well—expectations that, as it turned out, I probably shouldn’t have had.

The story of a girl who lost her love but not her dignity, and who lives in a “black neighborhood”—it’s certainly no easy story. The director manages to show many facets of African American life in those days without overloading the film with unnecessary grit, and he deserves credit for that. However, the plotline he constructed turned out to be slightly muddled. It felt as though the film was very scattered.

The main character constantly writes poems that are read aloud against the backdrop of the film’s events. In my opinion, without the idea that this girl is into poetry, the film could have been much more successful. First, because the poems are too simplistic, and second, in most cases they were simply out of place.

This film lacks a clear message, a clear idea, and any sense of thoughtfulness. The director experiments with cinematography, soundtracks, and the film’s minor events, but, alas, it all fails to come together into a harmonious whole.

Otherwise, it’s very pleasant to watch Janet Jackson and Tupac in a romance, both together and separately. Tupac shows himself to be an actor with potential, but (again, alas) he was given a botched role, much like Janet.
