The Outpost 4K 2019 Ultra HD 2160p
In 2006, the US Army established several roadblocks in northern Afghanistan to prevent the smuggling of weapons and the movement of Taliban fighters from Pakistan. The Keating outpost was located in the Hindu Kush mountains - the military base was surrounded on all sides by mountains and was in a disadvantageous position. On October 3, 2009, the American military had to engage in an unequal battle with the superior forces of the Taliban.

Review 4K Movie

"The Outpost" by Rod Luri turned out to be extremely dynamic. Before that I had seen only one film directed by him - "Nothing but the Truth." But it was a political detective, and Outpost was a war drama. If you look at the director's filmography, examine it under a microscope, it becomes clear that, starting to shoot "The Outpost", he stepped into a minefield. Step to the right, step to the left, and the result could have been completely different.

The film is based on real events (in recent years it is difficult to find a movie on a military theme with a fictional plot) and tells about the Keating outpost, near the village of Kamdesh in Afghanistan. It happened in 2009.

The soldiers on duty at this point had to hold back the rebuff of the superior forces of the Taliban, who, like cockroaches, climbed from everywhere, trying to destroy this object once and for all. And given the fact that the Keating outpost was located in a small hollow between the mountains, the Afghan militants were very close to this goal. I do not know if there were any proceedings after these events at the level of the military court, but the fact that the outpost was set up in such an area where all the soldiers are in full view looks more than strange.

The first half of the film acts as an introductory one - the viewer is gradually brought up to date, showing the main characters (not only those who will heroically fight until the final credits, but also those who will die somewhere in the middle). But the second is pure action. Endless shooting, a sea of cartridges and tons of dust raised into the air - for 50-60 minutes the viewer is immersed in natural chaos, in which calls for help merge into a cacophony with the screams of the dying.

In order to turn "Outpost" into an almost first-person shooter, Rod Luri invited Lorenzo Senatore to the bridge, who at one time worked with a camera on the set of the fourth part of "Sniper" and on the second film "Behind Enemy Lines". Both pictures turned out to be not so hot in quality, but the experience of shooting military-themed projects helped the Senator. And taking into account the use of small-sized cameras that allow you to follow the heroes of the film everywhere, the entertainment of the film has become an order of magnitude higher.

In many episodes of an armed conflict, the operator, along with his camera, is indeed an additional participant in the events, relentlessly following one or another character. This manner was reminiscent of the recent film "Taylor Rake" and that same 12-minute scene, filmed as a whole. The fact of dynamism pumps the entertainment to a high level, so that the viewer does not relax for a second.

In spirit, Outpost was similar to The Survivor with Mark Wahlberg, The Fall of the Black Hawk Down, and The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. This is with regard to the spectacularity, dynamics, brutality of the war, shown by Rod Lurie. But there are moments that refer to the legendary "Platoon" Oliver Stone (this is what concerns the life of the soldiers). The hobbies of some army men, in combination with their behavior, look somewhat secondary, although it is probably not worth reproaching the director of "Outpost". If only because such behavior takes place due to the "isolation" of soldiers from their usual world at home.

The cast deserves special mention. And the point here is not at all in the presence of Scott Eastwood (by the way, he blended into his image coolly) and Orlando Bloom (and he starred in that "The Fall of the Black Hawk Down"), but in the fact that the people responsible for the selection of actors worked for glory. At the end of the film, there are credits with the names and photographs of the real soldiers who participated in the defense of Keating Outpost, as well as the profiles of the actors who played them. In most cases, the resemblance is amazing! And although it is difficult to distinguish it in the dust, under protection and in helmets, it looks at least noble and not one-sided when someone is looking for someone else as a third-rate or minor character. And of course Caleb Landry Jones. For me, he made a qualitative step forward by playing Ty Carter here. At least I have never seen him in this way, and the last impressions of the actor's acting are connected with "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri."

Outpost is a pretty tough and brutal film. And although the story may seem painfully familiar (hello not only to Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and The Survivor, but also to Thunderstorm Gates and 9th Company), it was filmed cool and with high quality. Worthy of viewing. Definitely.
