A woman in a raincoat and with a black patch over her left eye persistently, expertly saws off the barrel of a gun, making it into a handy sawed-off shotgun. Two minutes later, the camera catches the heroine in the car, loading a pistol clip. Slowly, one by one, five rounds go in. The man behind the scenes seems to relish scenes that are not so important for the plot, purposefully killing the dynamics in favor of a kind of aesthetics. Meanwhile, the heroine, nicknamed the Pirate, tapes a tiny pistol to the back of her neck, then starts her car and drives off to meet her fate, to finish the thriller with an uncompromising and all-consuming revenge.

Swedish director Bo Arne Wibenius has made only three pictures, but he has succeeded in inscribing his name in the history of cinema. Not in the quality of his films, but in his unusual, innovative style, his bold ideas and, last but not least, his stiffness that borders on scandalousness. To be fair, it should be noted that in the 70's cinema was much more free than now, so that bold, provocative films have appeared like mushrooms after rain on both sides of the Atlantic. But "Thriller: A Violent Film" can hardly be called really violent, it was more a plume of scandal and subsequent re-mounting that was caused by a few particularly explicit scenes, even shots. If we do not focus on this unhealthy attention, the viewer is presented with a curious and atypical exploitation thriller about revenge, which largely inspired the notorious Quentin Tarantino for his "Kill Bill" dylogy.

In the plot, a young and mute girl, Frigga, because of her naivety and simplicity, is forced into sex slavery and given the name Madeleine to work as a prostitute. In the first part of the film, she appears as a helpless victim being tortured by a group of scum. In the second, she herself becomes a predator, preying on her tormentors. And the hot hand falls not only the perpetrators, but everyone who gets in the way of the silent Friggy. And it is in vain to complain about this fact, appealing to the innocence of random victims, because these are the rules of the game, set by the author of the film. Vibenius' film differs from other cheap exploits and trash in the first place by its coherence and logic, and secondly by its clear visual style. But most importantly, "Thriller" has the spirit of cinematic art.

In general, the composition of "Thriller" by Vibenius looks like this: take a bit of beauty and a lot of dark violence, add a bit of eroticism and a dash of porn, slowly mix it up, season it with slo-mo, eye-rolling shots and a sharp sound, at the end whip up some realistic action. Voila! This is the dish to be served cold.
