The protagonist of the film is middle-aged journalist Chow Mo Wan. He returns to Hong Kong, where he once broke up with the woman he loved, Su Li. He finds a hotel where he decides to stay in room 2046: in memory of another room where he once met Su Li. However, the room is occupied and Chou ends up in room 2047 next door. He transfers his experiences and the people around him into a futuristic novel called "2046," in which one man, goes to 2046 in order to revive his lost memories, as nothing ever changes in 2046. He had been there and decided to go back, he wanted to change...

You don't have to watch "Love Mood" to understand "2046." The films give a very different feeling. Of course, "2046" has all the hallmarks of the director's signature style: love - in Wong Kar-wai's films it is always a process (becoming, developing or fading); manipulation of time - the moments slow down, then gain a frantic speed; the constantly sounding offscreen voice of the central character, who comments on the picture, makes excursions into the past. But the main thing is the incredible elegance; the mesmerizing, tragic music, without which the film would be quite different; the rain washing down the night streets; the cigarette smoke; the weightless grace of the heroines, so mysterious, unleashed, touching... Tony Leung is phenomenally appealing. Sometimes it seems that the main purpose of his character is to direct our gaze to dazzling women.

"2046" is a nostalgia film, a sensual and incredibly gripping drama about lost or unfulfilled, about unrequited or untimely love. Untimely is a timeless drama where he and she are. "One must guess with love in time - it is bad when it comes too early or too late. Living in a different time or place, my story could have had a very different ending."

Wong Kar-Wai told us the sad story of a man in love with his past. How hard it is for us to let go of a broken past, to overcome the mistakes we've made, to start over. Of course, anyone who has had their heart broken, experienced unrequited love or was unable to reciprocate himself will find something personal, close and understandable in this film.

Wong Kar-wai's films are about the search for love. Although the author himself admits that he is not very interested in happy stories, he never puts an end to his films, there is always room for optimism.
