A young reporter investigates a mysterious superstition about a deadly videotape. In the home of whoever watches it, first a strange phone call is heard, and later the person dies. After her niece dies the same way, the woman decides to investigate and watches the ill-fated tape herself. A little later, a phone call rings in her apartment. Now the journalist has only seven days to get to the bottom of the origins of the terrible curse.

I read in someone's review that the horror genre in movies has divided into two historical stages - before and after The Call. A serious statement. Another reviewer said that it was the scariest movie he had ever seen.

Watching it, I can't understand such viewers. Well, what's scary about this Call?

The scene in the well? In my opinion, in the same 'I Am Legend' is much scarier than the episode in which Will Smith walks through a black basement looking for his dog. Anyway, there's no difference in taste or color. Then why don't we look for other scary scenes in The Call?

There aren't any. Only 1) the teaser, which ends with a frightened shriek from a young girl - that is, we are given to understand that she has seen something scary; and 2) - already at the end of the film - a scene with a TV set from which a Japanese theater actress emerges, moving like on a film with rewind. The hero, a sturdy man, sees this bogeyman, screams in horror and presses himself against the wall. At that moment, I wanted to find myself in his place and punch the babayoshka in the face so that it would crumble.

And what happens in between these scenes in the movie - isn't there at least some kind of suspenseful, at the very least, situation? Some promise of menace, a hint of the inexplicable and dangerous nearby? No. On the contrary: in the plot, the heroine is promised that death will come in a week, at seven p.m. at the earliest, and the whole movie - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday... she wanders around libraries and islands in Japan, figuring out the tape's origins. For an hour (!) of screen time we have to watch this boring investigation. And when it comes to an unexpected standstill - what do you think the characters did? One of them suddenly remembers: 'You know, I have special powers. Look' - he touches an object at the scene, closes his eyes, and sees everything that happened here on the date of his interest. Oh great, we're on the right track now! Bullshit.
