I Still Know What You Did Last Summer 4K 1998 Ultra HD 2160p
Julie James never got over the horror of last summer. Although the brutal maniac was killed, his body has not been found. The shadow of the grim vigilante continues to haunt the girl in nightmarish visions. To get rid of the terrible memories, Julie and her friends go to a picturesque tropical island. They hope to spend a few beautiful days here, but...

Paradise turns out to be hell. A storm is coming, and the last boat with tourists has already departed from the shore. The empty stage is ready for a bloody spectacle. Behind the misty shroud of rain, Julie sees again the ominous figure of someone who still knows what she did last summer.

Review 4K Movie

The desire of Columbia Pictures bosses to make a sequel to "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is easy to understand: the movie was profitable, and they didn't want to miss such a fish. The only problem was that to be honest, "I Know..." - slasher quite predictable even by the standards of the 1990s. To make a decent sequel, the new script needed a breath of very fresh air, but something, apparently, went wrong.

In idea, the main advantage of "I Know..." compared to some "Nightmare on Elm Street" or "Friday the 13th" is credibility. Well, at least relative. In the first installment, the maniac seemed quite earthy, with a clear motivation. It was frightening, and fans of the genre also pleased. In the sequel, however, everything was turned into a real magic with references to "Friday the 13th". Now the only thing that distinguishes Jason Voorhees and Ben Willis is the degree of shabby costume and weapons. Otherwise, they are like brothers! Apparently, the team of creators adores slashers so much that they were afraid to add something of their own. By the way, the director of this movie is Danny Cannon, whose career was already not too good because of the failed "Judge Dredd", and the failure with "I Still Know..." has undermined him completely. Cannon didn't get it right, he didn't get it right.

The script of this movie is a case of very interesting. Lately in movie criticism you can often hear such a turn of phrase as "to pull an owl on the globe". Well, "I Still Know..." is that owl, and the globe is the need to pull something off as a sequel. The actions and behavior of the characters, the journeys and plot twists in the finale look so strained and formulaic that one can't help but get suspicious of the not-so-comfortable conditions under which the script was written. The rule, obviously, was "Tension at any cost!". The boat ride, the storm, the family intrigue on the part of the villain, even Julie's nightmares at the beginning - all this is pulled by the creators' fishing rods from the shallow waters into which the inspiration turned after the previous movie. "Symptoms" of a typical creative crisis. Conclusion: it was worthwhile to hang on to the sequel and perhaps analyze the rival "Scream" in more detail.

There are, however, and positive aspects, the main of which becomes, of course, the music. You bet, because it was written by John Frizzell, who retained his affection for thrillers even later. If everything here had turned out to be as great as the music, I would have carried the director and everyone else in my arms. On a possible meeting. Jennifer Love Hewitt and especially Freddie Prinze Jr. play even better here than they did in the first installment. Brandy Norwood is basically well noted. It feels like she strictly followed the director's instructions, but within the given framework, she did as well as required.

If the first part was mainly intended for big fans of slashers, the sequel is designed for an even narrower audience - fans of its predecessor. Preferably also those who haven't seen "Friday the 13th". A naive goal, which led to lower box office receipts, and cooler reviews, too.
