Story Movie

A man takes his 12-year-old daughter to a concert by a rising pop star and notices that there are too many cops around. After talking to a merchandise vendor, he discovers that the event is a trap for a long-wanted serial killer

Review 4K Movie

I haven't watched any of Shyamalan's movies for a long time, because except for The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, he never made anything interesting. This man then began to suffer from the same syndrome: he writes a script for a 40-minute (give or take) short film with a spectacular beginning, and then he doesn't know how to finish it and starts hammering out such utter nonsense that it's embarrassing - and so on and so forth. Eventually I got tired of it, and after, I think, “The Apparition” I stopped torturing myself, and his “uber-blockbuster” with two Smiths for the price of one finally closed the question of this director for me.

However, “Trap”, as ridiculous as it sounds, interested me with its plot and concept (yes, yes, I bought the old trick again), and after ten years I decided to watch it. Well, maybe the Indian has changed over the years, and Josh Hartnett was very intriguing, because of him I decided to watch it because I wouldn't have tried with any other actor. And, what can I say, the same dreams. Interesting plot, not bad first 40-45 minutes, and then, as usual, the hell.

The main problem here, as usual, is the script and the incredible amount of stupidity, nonsense and cringe, from which you get tired of facepalming. It feels like Shyamalan wrote the first 40 minutes, and then suddenly he decided to let his daughter (who is also starring here) finish the script, or an enthusiastic teenage girl who sees a maniacal thriller that way. I won't spoil the specifics, but the man is really predictable and years later still just as unlearnable - everything is textbook, even if you time it.

The first third looks, in general, with interest. A couple of good camera movements, instead of tension - interest, quite relaxed atmosphere, but the attention is riveted. Then everything turns into a typical B-Movie tv-format, like an episode of “Are You Afraid of the Dark” or something similar.

Hartnett drags on almost the entire movie, where he manages to interrupt the scripted nightmare. I'm glad they chose him, because the man just burns out space with his charisma - he's charming, cunning, manipulative - a real chameleon, and dangerous as hell. The rest of the cast is on the up-and-up, but the one who is terrifyingly nightmarish is Shyamalan's daughter, who plays a singer (herself, that is). When she sings on stage, she's fine, but when she opens her mouth to speak dialog and try to “act” - lights out, water down. It's like Knight's just trying to promote his daughter.
