In the 1970s there were a lot of action movies about tough cops. But these movies were made not only by white people, but also by black people. And black movies were as good as white movies. And so many movies were made by black people about tough black cops that these movies created a new genre in cinema called 'Blacksplatation'. 'Shaft' is a great example of these B-movies.

The plot of this film is interesting and gripping from the very first minutes. Don't think that Detective Shaft is going to walk around the streets and kill everyone right and left throughout the whole movie. No. Sure, there will be shootings and more than one. But the plot isn't bad either. The detective is wanted by a gangster's men... No, I'm not gonna tell you anything about the plot. Because it's more interesting to watch a movie when you know less about it.

In movies of this genre, it is rare to find a good acting. This film is just that rare. Richard Roundtree did a great job as the badass detective. Thanks to him, Shaft has his own character. The script has nothing to do with it. The look, the gait, the detective's demeanor, are all the results of Roundtree's labors. The rest of the cast did a good job, too. Good, to say the least.

The director did his job, too. The atmosphere is great. From the very beginning, the film immerses you headfirst into the atmosphere of the film. Although it is an action movie, there are a lot of funny jokes in the film. From the very beginning. All in all, a great job by the director.

There is music playing almost throughout the whole movie. Music plays when there are gunfights, when Shaft is just walking down the street, only when the characters are talking music is not played so the viewer can hear the conversation. It was for the music that this movie won the Oscar. And I will say that it was rightly awarded. The music in the film is great. If you have ever seen such films or seen films of that time, you can already predict the music in this movie.

All in all, a good movie. I advise people who like action movies from the 70's to watch this movie. Although I am sure that fans of such movies have already watched this movie long ago.
