On assignment from the Vatican, Jack Crowe, a hereditary vampire hunter, and his friend and partner Montoya ruthlessly slay ghouls, but their main target is a particularly dangerous vampire Valek, a native of Prague, born in the 1300s. Jack and Montoya are aided in their vampire hunt by a young priest armed with knowledge from ancient treatises on bloodsuckers.

Valek searches the States for an ancient crucifix with special powers. Vampires are known to be afraid of sunlight, which kills them. Performing a magical ritual with the crucifix will allow Valek to not be afraid of sunlight and make him all-powerful. Vampire hunters must hurry, while Valek is still vulnerable, while he can still be killed....

Review 4K Movie

John Carpenter presented his variant on the popular theme of horror movies about vampires. And we must admit that he did it very well, to say the least. Personally, I loved this movie a long time ago, and I think that 'Vampires' is one of the best movies about bloodsuckers.

We are presented with a tough, fearless ghoul hunter named Jack Crowe (James Woods), who together with his team of mercenaries conducts raids on vampire dens on behalf of the Vatican. Jack's main target is Valek, leading the search for the Cross of Bersier, which in turn will give him the ability to walk in daylight. And here begins the harsh struggle between the hereditary vampire hunter and the soulless native of Prague born in the 1300s.

James Woods. The role of a tough hunter suits him as well as possible, and it seems that it is sewn especially for him. The actor did his job 100 percent, as a result of which you get a lot of positive emotions from his charismatic game, daring jokes, bold behavior. Undoubtedly, Jack Crowe is the central face of the whole movie, a hero with a capital letter, who stood in the way of immortals, killing innocent people for the sake of bloodlust.

Daniel Baldwin. Tony Mantoya is Crowe's right hand and loyal friend. Together, having traveled a long and difficult road, shoulder to shoulder, lead a long struggle with the undead. Tony is a kind of Jack's complement in everything, but without Jack's notable firmness and self-confidence. Daniel pleasantly surprised with his performance, thus making Tony stand out as a solid interesting individual character in the movie.

Thomas Ian Griffith. A vampire who inspires fear, at the sight of whom goosebumps start to run. Valek is a very clear embodiment of a vile, bloodthirsty and dangerous bloodsucker. Personally, I can't even look at him now without being disgusted and disturbed. Good choice of actor for this role. In general, the cast is selected very well, all in their places.

I liked most of all the way Carpenter presented his vision of vampires and the hunt for them. The movie 'takes' his interpretation of realism. In front of us is a trained, armed team of hunters, which has its own principles of fighting the soulless. A vampire can be killed only by sunlight or an aspen cross in the heart, after which his head must be separated from his body.

Vampires here are not represented by a pack of scavengers blindly following their bloodlust. They have an informant, and they act in concert. They have a mission: to find the 'black cross' to escape the darkness, and to shed blood in broad daylight so that nothing else can stop them. No garlic, silver, coffins, fancy clothes or romance. Rugged, cunning creatures.

Operator's work, colors, characters' play, soundtrack, quality special effects and smooth plot development make you feel the gloomy atmosphere of the film and immerse yourself in what is happening. A lot of juicy action scenes will not let you get bored, but will only keep you in suspense until the very end. This is a perfect vampire thriller, which will be to the liking of the connoisseur of the horror genre. Ten years later, it still holds its mark.

Separately it is worth mentioning simply amazing soundtrack, the composer of which is also John Carpenter. This music turns the film into a kind of vampire western, loaded with heartwarming bloody jams mixed with heavy bluesy guitar riffs and harmonica. John Carpenter did his best, for which he gets a big thank you.

'Vampires' is one of the best vampire movies, and if you are a fan of vampires, you should watch it, and you won't regret it!
