Story Movie

When Muffy invites her college friends to her parents' house on the island, she just forgets to warn them that it might be the last invitation of their lives. As soon as the boys arrive on the island, someone starts adjusting the guest list - and the guests disappear one by one. Harmless pranks, traditional on Fool's Day, turn into a bloody marathon of survival.

Review 4K Movie

There are so many slashers, so many holidays this genre has graced - Halloween, Independence Day, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, and now Fool's Day. For me and those unfamiliar with this movie - now, and chronologically the first of April has long since been embraced by director Fred Walton and gave this unremarkable day its own movie. Not to say it's funny, but not to say it's scary either. More like a very black joke.

Not so long ago, when I was in the mood for slashers (mostly not too dark), a certain 1986 copy with absolutely unfamiliar faces (except for Thomas F. Wilson, whose name I didn't know, but immediately recognized him as Beef from Back to the Future) came to my hand. The plot of “Ten Little Negroes” spoke in favor of the picture, and I decided to watch it. Well, it turned out to be a good choice, but it was not without flaws.

The plot, as I have already said, is derived from the classics of the detective genre, but the result was neither an implied slasher nor a detective. The group of people, the island, the mysterious murders all sound just fine, but you can put it in different ways too. Here - in the spirit of the early works of the genre, everything happens slowly and tediously, as if chewing gum that has long lost its flavor. Thankfully, the young people are cheerful. They amuse themselves as they can: they banter with each other on the ferry on the way to the shore, play sports games in the air, guys hit on girls, and someone is already indulging in love affairs. In general, the guys don't lose their sense of humor and fighting spirit most of the time. But as soon as the murders begin, everyone somehow goes sour, something incomprehensible and not subject to clear criticism begins. There is a feeling as if a good movie about carefree rest and relations of young heroes turn into some lawlessness. And then you realize that it should be a mayhem, and it should be a slasher. That is, the strange combination of genres and their rhythms of life in the movie break its integrity and plunge the viewer into bewilderment at what is happening on the screen. Somehow the ending also saves, I would say, very unexpected and pleasant, strange as it may seem. But, in general, the tape leaves a positive impression and even adds a little good mood, whether it is the first of April or the last.
