Professor Quatermass receives news of a meteor shower over a remote area of England. Arriving there with his colleague Marsh, Quatermass discovers a large and well-protected scientific complex in the middle of nowhere, and later finds a small meteorite. When Marsh is injured by a substance released from the meteorite, armed men arrive from outside the complex and take Marsh away with them without any explanation. After that, Quatermass decides to find out what exactly they are doing in this secret facility, which resembles his own project to colonize the moon.

This is the work of Hammer Studios. The studio is now known for Dracula and Frankenstein, but the Quatermass series is also worthy of attention. It was a long-running series on British TV. It all started with The Quatermass Experiment, where an astronaut began to turn into a plant. The execution wasn't great, but the idea and the beginning of the film were memorable (a rocket arrived, and two of the three astronauts simply vanished). Quatermass 2 turned out to be an excellent film.

The events take place with the same Professor Quatermass, as if the first part never happened. Quatermass is busy developing rockets and creating a project for a station on the moon. However, Britain suddenly shuts down its entire space program. At the same time, meteor showers become more frequent in Britain. They always fall in the same place. Quatermass is intrigued and, upon visiting the site, suddenly discovers a life-size replica of his lunar station. It is fenced off and guarded by zombie-like security guards.

Quatermass is told that it is a standard food production factory. However, the professor's attempt to enter the factory as part of a government commission leads him to believe that it is indeed a food factory, except that the food is all of humanity.

The British won over audiences not with special effects, but with a good script and an excellent, gradually intensifying dark atmosphere. I highly recommend it to all fans of dark horror.
