An ancient demon, encased in a shell of human flesh, roams the desert and commits ritual murders of those who have decided to part with their lives on their own. His next victim should be a woman who ran away from her husband. She easily becomes the demon's mistress, but she does not agree to become his sacrificial lamb.

The desert villain has pronounced sadistic tendencies and is not particularly fond of random travelers. He is handsome and very pretentious. The desert near Johannesburg is his domain, and it is here that he carries out all his dirty deeds, striding pompously across the sand dunes. From what I've heard about this film, it seems that Stanley perfected every shot to the detriment of his nervous system, and as a result, a number of interesting artistic features of the director himself can be identified. So, the cinematography is top-notch, and any frame can be put in a frame and used as a poster for utopian myths about parallel worlds. Richard is like Alan Moore and other mystics of the industry; he doesn't just get high on the genre, he lives it and does everything to make his universe exist in reality. The world of Dust Devil is one forgotten by God, who would doubt it, a landscape populated by sinners tired of life, aggressive white cops, and equally vicious black natives. Civilization hung somewhere between booze and eternal heat. And this desert demon reminded me more of a drifter-killer sewn into canon, a wandering psychopath with a penchant for cold weapons, though the latter is played out not in the style of a slasher, but in the spirit of traditional bloody ritualism, a mixture of sadism and voodoo. Stanley diligently shot every frame, which is why it's a pleasure to watch the actions of the bloodthirsty desert dweller, and the aesthetic appeal is still there, plus the traditional transformations with the rejection of the image of a cute wanderer in favor of a voracious demon. It's all cool and solid, but not original. It's clear that it's beautiful, it's clear that it's mystical, but it's not original. The atmosphere is good, there's intrigue, and there's a beautiful main character, but in fact, it's still a slasher with strong visual elements.
