1850. Lilith Silver rushes to the home of Sir Setan Blake, who is preparing for a duel with her beloved. But the girl is late — her boyfriend is dead. It's no surprise that the British are famous for their love of filming with enthusiasm! In this case, punk director Jake West shot an urban version of Bloodrain on a shoestring budget of £20,000. His story about a bloody beast named Lilith unfolds in cold London, where a fatal beauty faces the intrigues of a greedy count, the master of a coven of ancient Illuminati. How about that? It looks like the beginning of a comic book or a shooter game. Based on the opening credits, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that West drew his inspiration from there.
In just over an hour and a half, he managed to delight me with a number of features suitable for a vampire movie. First, our heroine is a hundred percent goth, the very type that nonconformists of the late nineties and early noughties were crazy about. She is sexy, which is emphasized by a variety of fetish-style outfits and, of course, “tasty” camera angles. West understood that a low-budget film would not be a box office success without nudity, and therefore there are plenty of goth-style ladies in the film. Next is the sound, and here Jake West once again delights the viewer: the music is purely techno and old-school gothic rock, and with such a contrast, you forget that you are watching a VHS product and simply enjoy the production.

Thirdly, despite the film's meager budget, it has very good cinematography, plus panoramic views of a foggy metropolis, gray sepia tones, and other “quick fixes” that allow the film to carry the plot on more than just the latex-clad shoulders of the main vampire girl. That's how it is.

Otherwise, Razor Blade Smile is an example of a neophyte's obsession with cinema. It's obvious to the naked eye that West shot his vampire action movie on the principle of “making do with what he had,” hence the informal extras, the jumping camera, the blood from the butcher shop, and the fangs from the novelty store. But overall, the film works as an example of a low-budget horror action movie, and it is definitely only for fans of B-grade horror, because who else would want to watch the erotic adventures of a vampire from the days of VHS tapes?
