In a quiet, remote area lives a small community of Ammonites under the strict leadership of Brother Isaiah. When Martha, a city girl, marries Isaiah’s son, Jim, she moves to a farm located on the community’s property. Eventually, Jim is driven out because many disapproved of his marriage to Martha, and he is later found murdered in the barn on his own farm. Isaiah strongly urges Martha to leave their commune, but she refuses and invites two friends—Lana and Vicky—to join her. Soon, Lana begins to suffer from nightmares, and Martha realizes that she and her friends have become victims of the commune, which is intimidating and persecuting them.

This movie is a very good slasher film. Even before Wes went on to make one of the best slasher films about a killer who strikes in people’s dreams, he directed "The Deadly Blessing".

The film does a great job of capturing the atmosphere of rural life. The suspense is also well-crafted; for example, the scene in the shower with the snake was a very unsettling moment. The film also knows how to surprise you—you never know what the next plot twist will be or how it will play out. But the ending somehow stands out from the rest of the film and feels unnecessary, as strange as that may sound.

The actors performed well. The main characters came across as quite likable; the cult leader is memorable for his charisma, and the actor looks well-suited for the role.

The maniac is memorable for his personality, which reveals an unexpected side.

The deaths weren’t particularly gory, but the fourth one really stood out.

All in all, this is a very good movie that I recommend you watch.
