Review 4K Movie

I’m a huge fan of "The Evil Dead", so I had high expectations for the new movie. But, damn it, I never expected to like it this much.

The first thing I want to mention is the visuals. The movie looks absolutely amazing. The cinematography, lighting, color grading, and the death scenes themselves—at times, I literally wanted to pause the frame and take it all in. And all of this is perfectly complemented by the soundtrack, which doesn’t just play in the background but actually works in tandem with the action to create the right atmosphere.

At the same time, the filmmakers clearly remember that they’re making "Evil Dead". There are plenty of references to the previous installments, but they don’t come across as cheap fan service along the lines of “look, do you remember this?” On the contrary, you can feel a tremendous respect for the franchise’s history.

But what I liked most of all was that the creators finally decided to tweak the familiar formula a bit. In practically all the previous films, everything started out more or less the same way: the heroes find the Book of the Dead, someone reads or listens to the incantation—and all hell breaks loose.

Here, though, everything is different. The spell has already been cast, the evil has already been unleashed, and the movie essentially picks up where the previous installment left off. So the story starts from a completely different point, and for a franchise that’s been around for so many years, it feels incredibly fresh.

Moreover, the movie doesn’t try to break with the past—on the contrary, it builds upon the existing mythology. For me, this is especially cool now that the previous installments have started to expand the lore of the Book of the Dead and tie different stories together. It feels like "Evil Dead" is gradually transforming from a series of standalone horror films into a full-fledged shared universe.

And the two post-credits scenes are a total treat. I was already sitting there like I was watching a Marvel movie: “Okay, don’t turn off the credits—there’s still something coming.” And both scenes were clearly included for more than just a laugh—after watching them, you immediately want to see where the franchise is headed next.

Most importantly: “Hell” doesn’t just try to copy the old movies. It preserves the DNA of “The Evil Dead”—the madness, the brutality, the dark humor, the Deadites, and that very palpable chaos—while also moving the series forward.

For me, this is one of the best films in the franchise. Not because it tries to outdo the classics, but because it respects them while not being afraid to try something new.

As a fan of "The Evil Dead", I got pretty much everything I wanted.
