17-year-old Ben, worried about his parents' discord, comes to his father for the summer to spend time in nature and earn some money on the pier. A young couple with two children lives in the next house, and one day after a forest walk they bring an ancient evil with them. Ben immediately notices that something strange is happening in the neighborhood, but his father doesn't even want to listen to him, and Mallory's new acquaintance believes that a rational explanation can be found for everything.

What do you know about witches? Everyone has heard more than once about their abnormal cravings for tasty babies, as well as their love for cottages in the forest. They do not like only to be shown to the public, and therefore they strive with all their might to fence themselves off from the annoying society. And nevertheless, there are not so many high-quality horror films on this fruitful topic. Only the Blair Witch, which made the mocumentari genre popular, and the 2015 Witch with Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role come to mind. However, these are relatively serious films. The First Witch belongs to a different segment - youth horror films that speak out on the same topic, but in an easier and more accessible form.

Ben (John-Paul Howard) comes to visit his father (Jamison Jones), who has long separated from the boy's mother. He thought he would just have a good time and even be able to have a little fun with new friends, none of the witches he knew were part of his plans. At some point, he suddenly realizes that his neighbors suddenly began to behave very strangely: their son no longer wants to spend time with his parents and runs off to Ben, and then the father of this family began to become a natural mindless zombie. Ben told his father and girlfriend everything, but no one believed him. The guy wants to do everything possible and save the kids from a terrible fate.

The main leitmotif of the work is trust. Moreover, both between a son and a father, and between spouses and even between young people. The witch possesses the mystical power of manipulating memories, with the help of which she almost always avoids exposure. And usually those around her only help her, multiplying mistrust. In this way, they show us in a very visual way that the family can cope with a common misfortune only if it unconditionally trusts each other.

The plot is relatively simple here, but even here the final twist can be a bit surprising. It is also relatively easy to predict, but even such an attempt is not common in youth horror films. In general, it is curious to observe the state of the relationship between father and son. And the filmmakers are trying to convey to the audience that their own blood should always stand above the rest.

The First Witch is a good horror movie aimed at young people. He does not try to jump above his head and tells an interesting story, not forgetting about morality, after which an unpleasant aftertaste on his teeth does not even remain.
