Halloween II 4K 1981 Ultra HD 2160p
October 31, 1978 A wave of bloody murders sweeps through the city. Residents whisper the name of Michael Myers - a bloody maniac who reappeared just on Halloween. His former victim, Laurie Strode, survived, and he returned to finish what he started. This time, Laurie's pursuit brings him to the hospital, and in her dark corridors, a cold-blooded, unkillable psychopath finds his victims.

Review 4K Movie

Rosenthal's Halloween is a good, worthy, competent sequel and one of the best parts of the series. It correlates perfectly with the first part and is perceived as one whole. This happens not only due to the presence of the "original" Curtis and Pleasant in the main roles (by the way, they look much better here, and the second one was nominated for the best actor for the role of Loomis even in the 82nd). The main reason is that the picture is absolutely "Carpenterian" in its spirit and style, since John himself, being a producer and screenwriter, certainly did not mess around on the set and continued to stand at the helm and hone his brainchild (albeit with the wrong hands).

Since the action starts right after the end of the first episode, it is best to watch "Halloween 2" immediately after the original, so as not to miss the mood created by this original. For those who lack of time or desire does not allow them to stare at the screen for three hours in a row, Rosenthal kindly offers a short background of events. The most meticulous, by the way, can compare how many times Loomis shoots Myers in this backstory, and how many times he did it in the original. If you look closely, there are quite a few such blunders in the picture, however, given the well-built storyline, they do not spoil the impression.

Actually, like the Halloween pumpkin in the opening credits, it became more brutal compared to its prototype, so the movie turned out to be more gloomy, dark and harsh. This is understandable - the budget in comparison with the first part has grown by about ten times, which made it possible to get a whole hospital for filming, more or less colorful and creatively shred many times more people and even blow up something to a heap. In other words, those who did not have enough drive in the first episode (I include myself among them) will clearly enjoy the sequel more.

As for Michael Myers, in fact only for this film he can already be awarded the title of one of the coolest movie lovers. Dick Warlock, who played him, made the image of the antagonist powerful and solid enough, so that in the frame he looks more confident in himself (or in his invulnerability) and even less nervous than his predecessor. In this regard, the preserved intensity of individual scenes (first of all, an almost classical scene with a late elevator) is already beginning to be achieved not due to the general pumping of tension, but precisely due to the charisma of Myers himself and his unhurried, but terribly purposeful actions.

The title piece on the soundtrack is the timeless state-of-the-art super hit Mr. Sandman ”, which was very useful in the first and last shots of the picture. The finale, I must say, turned out to be strong in general: an impressive "fiery" ending (bravo to the stuntman!) And a vague symbolic farewell to the heroine Curtis, who here fulfilled her role perfectly and left the franchise for a long time. Moreover, in this finale, I did not notice any direct or indirect hints of further continuation of the story, so I think that in some way "Halloween" 1 and 2 can be called the author's dilogy.

Bottom line: the perfect end to Carpenter's film, not devoid of minor flaws, but retaining the advantages of the original and adding to them dynamism and entertainment that are important for this genre.
