Fall 4K 2022 Ultra HD 2160p
After Dan's death as a result of a fall from a cliff, his wife Becky, who was previously fond of extreme entertainment, fell into depression. A year later, the girl still can not recover and regularly pours alcohol on her grief, when her old battle friend Hunter suddenly appears in her life. She proposes to honor Dan's memory by climbing the B67 radio mast and scattering his ashes there. The girls head for the tallest structure in the United States, not realizing what they will encounter at the top.

Review 4K Movie

It would seem that there are very few topics that have not been touched at all by cinema by the 1920s of the 21st century. There's "Phone Booth", "Killer Tomatoes", "buried alive" in several positions, dolls, scarecrows, mirrors... a cliffhanger... But "Fall" kind of hasn't been around yet, at least not among the "A" movies. It's just hard to miss.

And this theme may not have been there because it's pretty hard to come up with a story for being on a tiny patch of surface for hours (days). What kind of story would that be? You could make a "Cliffhanger" movie as an action movie, and a "Saw" movie as a mix of horror and detective. "Phone Booth" can even be presented as a kind of parenting drama. But you absolutely can't fit terrorists, a maniac, or even a random accident into the story of "Fall" as you could with a phone booth: a person could end up near any booth just by chance.

So the task of coming up with a motivation for young, healthy people to decide to climb an old, corroded, crumbling tower for some reason is not an easy one. There is no such motivation explaining everything in the movie, but there is definitely some motivation. Does it need more? I'm not sure.

And here I'll tell you a few memories. When I was 11 years old, there was an abandoned Ferris wheel in the park where I lived. It was right next to my house, and no one was looking after it. A lot of kids climbed on it. But I loved it and did it many times. First, I climbed up the inner ladders, which were surrounded by bars, to a small balcony. It was relatively safe. Next it was necessary to climb directly on the axles of the wheel. I can honestly say that only once I climbed out of this balcony and climbed a little higher. This is the place from which, if you get off, you fly straight down. And I felt a nice, strong breeze at that height. Then I had a limit. If I had more free time, maybe I would have tried to climb higher. So in that respect, I understand the heroines' motivation. In some other circumstances, I might have decided to do the same experiment.

Then there's the realization of the experiment itself. And this may be the movie's greatest asset. With all the blunders, simple dialogs, and oddities, there is a constant sense of danger and tension. Yes, this tension is created by the tower itself, the authors don't need to invent something special here, but it is there. And it's cooler than rocks or skyscrapers. When they are at the very top, despite the fatigue, despite the boredom, despite the fact that nothing much is happening, you still feel fear and anxiety.

And about the realism of the picture. Another memory. When I went up in a parachute tied to the boat, and was at the maximum height, about 150 meters, I was struck by several things: firstly, how toy-like what seems below, literally drawn, very distant, small, and... unreal. Second, it was very quiet, as if nothing was happening, it seemed possible to fall asleep out of boredom. Third, I wasn't scared because I felt like I was securely anchored.

And yes, I had many moments in the movie that raised questions, about their realism, and appropriateness, and generally the behavior of the characters. But those are the kind of details you can call out if the movie doesn't touch you in any way at all. If the movie touches somehow, then these "details" can be explained, and not noticed, and skipped.

Now I'll tell you what I definitely liked.

The characters themselves, natural, ordinary, believable, goofy. One of them I particularly liked, it's not often that a protagonist is both outwardly and inwardly likable to the viewer. Speaking internally, I mean here not intelligence, and not even some special spiritual inner world, but some non-verbal, intuitive details. You want to feel for her. The other one is, in my opinion, not so pretty, but also much more vivid, windy, daring, and this connection of the two friends also looks very natural.

It also simultaneously reinforces the special tension when they end up on top.

I disagree that this movie doesn't have something so special. That it has corny dialog. These characters are not elderly thinkers, but living people. Their speech is perfectly adequate to their age, while at the same time, at certain moments, unexpectedly serious thoughts flicker almost in passing, their moods even change. The movie takes on a philosophical tone. I don't think it was necessary to develop this theme much.

How well are all the possible actions on the tower played out? As well as it could be done. I have some questions about the technical realization, I would like to clarify some things or see them differently, but the ideas themselves, if they were written in the script, are quite normal. In any case, the feeling of involvement never left me. Yes, many things seemed strange to me, but at the same time I felt them at that height the whole time.

There are even a few unexpected twists and turns in the movie. Shades of several genres. Predictable? To some.
