'Hellraiser' is a movie that is not littered with clichés, stiltedness and predictable moves. Even now it is perceived literally as a breath of fresh air, for its plot has nothing in common with the plots of many modern horror movies, where everything is reduced to maniacs, cheerfully killing squealing from horror heroes.

However, the name of Clive Barker, the author of the book, screenwriter and director of the movie. speaks for itself. From such a master should not expect banalities. not without reason he is respected by Stephen King himself. I read the story 'Hellraiser' a few months before watching the movie and was struck by the author's dark fantasy.

I understood the essence of the book as follows: a man wants to force the messengers of Hell to serve him and fulfill his sexual fantasies. However, the inhabitants of Hell did not send LeMarchand's box to the human world to satisfy the voluptuousness of the latter. On the contrary, by tantalizing their heads with the tale of incredible pleasure, they pursue their own goal. Open the box and we will come. FOR YOU. For YOU will be our plaything, we will experiment on YOU. The engineer is clever and inventive, he can think of things you never dreamed of in your nightmares.... You wanted the pleasures of Hell? Then get them and it's not our fault that they are a bit different from what you dreamed of.

The movie lived up to all expectations. Grim, stylish, scary. Despite the abundance of blood and meat it does not induce gagging like, for example, 'Hostel'. The actors play very well. True, according to the book, I imagined Julia as a young blonde beauty, but the ominous and infernal image created by Claire Higgins, I really liked. Ashley Lawrence (Kirsty) is very good looking and plays quite well. Andrew Robinson (Larry) is wonderful - such a contrast between the beginning and the end!

Frank, whose image was created by the combined efforts of Sean Chapman and Oliver Smith is scary, but in human form is quite sexy. It is true that Frank the human and Frank the monster are played by different actors - they differ in physique. But this little thing doesn't spoil anything.

Cenobites... Cenobites. Terrifying appearance, but what an attraction! The makeup and costumes are unparalleled, the imagination of those who came up with them can only be applauded! I especially liked the fat guy in dark glasses, whom I dubbed Morpheus (because he looks so much like him).

And Pinhead is a masterpiece! The pupil-less eyes, those nails..... And the low, sort of otherworldly voice: 'You've opened the box, we're here'. Doug Bradley is 100% in character!
