Story Movie

1888 London. The townspeople appeal to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to find and stop Jack the Ripper. For some unknown reason, the police obstruct Holmes' involvement in the investigation in every way possible.

Evidence after evidence, one murder after another leads Sherlock Holmes to one of the most powerful and wealthy representatives of the British crown.

Review 4K Movie

Before this film I was familiar with Mr. Holmes only in book format and perhaps it would have been worth to limit myself to it. But the problem is not in the screen adaptation itself. The reason lies in another. Namely in invulnerability of the main character and surrealism of what is happening.

As much as I did not try to immerse myself in the atmosphere of what was happening, I could not feel excitement, fear or anxiety. And though I had guesses that nothing would happen to Holmes and his buddy Watson, but there were no suspicions that he would be simply untouched in the moments of his defenseless stay.

The plot in turn is quite curious. Not being a fan of conspiracy theories one wants to believe in his in the possibility of what is happening. Also an important factor is its social aspect. It touches upon the problem of relations between the lower and higher strata of society, which remains relevant in our society. I find the first scene of the movie very curious in this respect. There is nothing to say about politics, I am not interested in it.

Summing up I would like to say that the good idea of this picture looks a little strained in the context of a great detective. If each character did not have a chance to make a mistake, the movie would attract attention more strongly and could cause more emotions.
