Who would have thought that the world-famous and beloved Ghostbusters would return to the big screen in the 2020s? In the 2010s, Hollywood managed to give viewers the original and a sequel, which could hardly be called box office hits. The second part even managed to underperform in terms of earnings, so the loud announcement of a trilogy died down quickly and predictably. After watching today's new release, the thought occurred to me that this whole “Now You See Me” thing stands out as a kind of frivolous franchise, without which cinema would not fade away, but which is fun and entertaining at a particular moment.

So here we are at the third installment, and from the first film we remember that the cool Mark Ruffalo ran around, while the sequel is remembered for the rain, the absence of Isla Fisher, and the presence of Lizzy Caplan in her place. So you don't need to rush to your laptop to have a marathon and remember all the important plot twists of the previous stories. The trilogy acts as if the Horsemen are still needed in this world, like the Avengers, the extensive Toretto family, or the Jedi and Sith. It looks funny, but harmless. It seems like you could live peacefully without them, but since action movies about illusionists are rarely released, we should be grateful for that.

I came, I watched, I was surprised by the explanations of their tricks, I remembered my childhood dream of becoming a magician so I could pick up pretty girls in bars, I didn't cry, I got up and left. The strikingly uncomplicated Now You See Me takes its cue from other franchises when the old and new generations come together on screen for one bright goal. And then the whole gang jumps back and forth, everyone needs to have witty lines, everyone has to show off their superpowers. There is one silly scene in the movie where everyone takes turns.

The sweeping intrigue seems to paint a simple picture before your eyes, but don't rush, because at the end, all viewers are in for a surprising ending in the spirit of “up is down, and left is right.” Despite the apparent coolness of many tricks, they can only impress children, because everything comes too easily to them; they are real miracles, not sleight of hand. But what definitely saves this trifling franchise is the dubbing with those very voices.

It's extremely pleasant to hear Polonsky, Chekhovsky, Tikhonov, Chaban, Shitova, and Staroseltsov again. You are immediately transported back to the good old days.

They made good use of the popular theme of millennials and zoomers, who seem similar but are so different in their methods. For some reason, young Ariana Greenblatt constantly reminded me of Darky. Finally, the sins of this blockbuster series can be mitigated by the brilliant main cast. They complement each other so warmly that, regardless of the new unimaginable story surrounding them, the main thing is that they love each other and don't break up. And the ending, when you already know for sure who will appear there, frankly prepares viewers for a quadrilogy. The franchise has lost so much fear that it allows itself to make the trilogy a two-hour teaser.
