A continuation of the exploits of the cheerful and resourceful policeman Axel to catch criminals. A sexy blonde and a group of gangsters rob a jewelry store. But the indefatigable Axel is here as there, on guard of order and the law.

Further, as it should be in a police comedy, the dynamic plot unfolds more and more rapidly, the chases and shootouts follow one after another, the dashing slaughter is replaced by funny, though sometimes crude jokes.

You know what they used to call Tony Scott's directing in the '80s? 'Cheesy'. In his desire to stay in the big movies, Tony stepped on his own muse's throat. He made one blockbuster after another for the amusement of ordinary American audiences. Movies were completely devoid of serious drama and meaning, the actors were based on the charisma and visual presentation of images, and the rest was completed with a great soundtrack, filming and editing.

In the early 80s Eddie Murphy starred in several very successful (and not expensive) films: 48 Hours and Swap Places. But the real triumph was the role of the cocky and tongue-in-cheek policeman Axel Foley. The original 'Policeman ...' was directed by the remarkable Martin Brest, who in 10 years will release another triumphant film (in a different genre) - 'Scent of a woman. Like Richard Donner with his Lethal Weapon, Brest managed to measure doses of humor, action, social subtext, satire and drama with apothecary precision. As a result - the film for 14 million (by the way, the main role was planned for Mickey Rourke) brought in almost 400 million at the box office.

The sequel has almost nothing left of the 'perfect recipe'. The jokes are many. But they exploit Murphy's crude (at the time) humor. Action? Above the top. But there's too much of it. The logic and poignancy of what's going on - not at all. Easy, effortless and even fun, the trio of heroes from the first film will blow the town to hell, along with the entire mob, without even bothering to reload both of their guns. The mildest comment on the film was in Video Movie Guide: "the sequel to Beverly Hills Cop loses much of its charm and freshness." And the most accurate assessment of the film was, as usual, by L. Moltin: "Did we see the same characters in the first film?"

Despite this coolest, stupid, silly but incredibly dynamic action movie - it looks. Now it's been picked apart for quotes, too. The sexy hitwoman played by Brigitte Nielsen in a completely grotesque and generally lewd form presented in 'Carrier 2' (remember the woman with a pair of guns in her underwear?). The filming of the chases, shootouts and other stuff is top notch.

The simple American (and not only) audience brought almost 300 million dollars to the altar of the film with a 20 million budget. A success, no matter how you look at it.
