Hong Kong, 1980s. After stealing a bag of what he thought was money from the gangsters who tricked him, illegal migrant Chan flees from them and runs into the fortress town of Kowloon, a densely built neighborhood that lives by its own laws. There he tries to sell the drugs in the bag and gets acquainted with a local gang. Taking pity on the illegal alien, the leader nicknamed Cyclone pays Chan's debt and gives him a job - so the guy gets a house and friends. Meanwhile, a Kowloon real estate owner and Cyclone's named brother discovers the identity of the man whose death he has been longing for for years.

Since this film as a representative of the genre of Hong Kong action films is an extremely specific product, designed primarily for fans of pure action, I will not even raise questions of logic and realism, but even as a typical representative of its genre to the movie there are very big questions....

In terms of action, nothing much has changed here since the 80s. At first it seems that the plot is grounded on pure action, which completely prevails over everything else, and in this part it turned out well, but only for the first 20 minutes, until the moment when the plot does not stumble on a 40-minute dramatic insertion, in which there is such nonsense that the most badass Indian screenwriter, who comes up with the next twists on the theme “Mom, I'm your grandmother”, after watching “this”, will ask “and so it was even possible?”.

After the tedious dramaturgy, when finally it seems that the story returns to a cheerful rubilovu in the plot with two legs bursts frank fantasy, which turns the classic gopniks into immortal terminators and thereby completely leveled the meaning of the fight scenes, because what difference does it make who got what where, if it does not affect anything? The second part of the movie is essentially a battle of the gods, in which there are no rules, and the key actors drop out of the race only because at the right moment the scriptwriter turns off their immortality mode.

Moreover, the trick of the tape was obviously intended to emulate a very specific area of old Hong Kong - Kowloon, but from it, in fact, there is nothing left, except for a few panoramic views, otherwise it is a typical story about the showdown between rival gangs, one of which is appointed by the scriptwriter on the side of evil, and the other on the side of good.

As a result, by the final battle, it doesn't really matter what happens or who wins. Even relative to its genre brethren, this film is structurally and essentially an incoherent hodgepodge, which you can pay attention to solely on the principle of “a fish without a fish”. However, taking into account that the genre was originally conceived as “to air the brains”, then to call this product a failure is not possible, and the collected box office and announced sequel and prequel eloquently say that the target audience product came in and perhaps on the big screen it looks much better, but at home it is better to review something from the warm lamp classics.
