Review 4K Movie

When you watch this nail in the coffin of SONY's superhero universe, you can't help but feel like you've found a dusty video player in a closet somewhere, with a single cassette tape included that you've never watched before. The movie feels like it's from a time when the first X-Men with Hugh Jackman had just hit the big screens. There's a certain charm to it. You feel like you're eleven years old again and you're playing your favorite action movie cassette. If you take the stylization from the movie in the title and add interference, the effect of chewed film and let it into the movie - it would be a cool experiment.

It's not just the flat story or dialog from back then. By the way, here's a quote from the official dubbing (I didn't watch it in the original, please): “She died and I never saw her again.” I laughed for a long time at this phrase. The story is as simple as two pennies. There is a hero, there is a villain. Can the hero defeat the bandit? Does the screenwriter fill the story with interesting twists and turns or additional connecting turns? The answer is no. Sometimes there are some attempts related to the R rating in cruelty, but they are quite few and they are made so carefully, as if they didn't understand until the last moment what rating the movie will be released with, so that in case of anything it could be easily remounted. Very strange editing. Sometimes the splices start to be so frequent that you don't have time to make out what's going on and who hit who and so on. Sometimes, there are teleportations of the main characters, there is a second change of time of day and so on.

What you can't take away from the movie is the charisma of Aaron-Taylor Johnson. He's as usual a pretty good actor, plus he actually looks pretty good. Our hunter is not badly rocked and pathos oozes from his every look. But for some reason the director doesn't use his advantage and doesn't emphasize it properly. Well, for example, the scene with the mirror (who watched that will understand). Well shoot the main actor closer, slowly raise the camera from bottom to top, do it all in slo-mo effect. It'll be cool! But no. In the movie, it's a scene where you can see our hero in the reflection from afar, as he just sat in the chair. Bravo! I can just see the hero's awesomeness oozing off the screen.

Bottom line, yes it is a weak movie, stuck in the past, but still not as terrible as one might think. It just came out in 1999 and dusted on a shelf until it was found. We do, after all, sometimes watch old movies and discount the time it came out. If you want a standard good action movie from the past, you can pull a stunt like this. Or you can trash it. It's all about how you personally approach the issue.
