Story Movie

This time James Bond fights with evil in the person of international criminal Goldfinger. The villain plans to destroy the gold reserve of the United States, and thus plunge the entire capitalist society into chaos.

Review 4K Movie

Goldfinger is the third film about the adventures of the elusive, indestructible, slightly alcoholic lover of attractive women, etc., etc. – Agent 007 with a license to kill – James Bond.

After the success of the first films, there was no doubt that there would be sequels, and so their production is still ongoing. But what about the film itself?

And what about Sean?

Goldfinger was Sean Connery's peak in this role, as after the next film, Thunderball, he began to realize what a hole he had dug himself into. Later, in the 1980s, Sir Connery honestly admitted that the producers did not want to part with the goose that laid the golden eggs; they quite rightly feared that Bond without Connery would no longer be Bond. The actor, in turn, tried to scare them off with fees that were colossal for the time. He did not want the image to stick with him forever, and combined with the complexity of filming, its duration, training, and absence from home, it all became a heavy burden. Nevertheless, the fact remains that after this film, Connery's interest and former enthusiasm for Bond would fade.

But what about the film itself?

It should be noted that, according to most, this film was based on Ian Fleming's best novel, and therefore many consider it the best, if not of the entire Bond series, then certainly of the films starring Connery. However, in my personal opinion, it is a little more drawn out than the first two films, which were not particularly dynamic either, and the plot is clearly not worthy of the highest praise. Yes, there are interesting twists and turns, and there is intrigue, but it all seems a little far-fetched.

But what definitely worked was the image of the main villain, Auric Goldfinger. A red-haired tycoon, owner of a large stockpile of gold and obsessed with it, he is clearly up to no good, as you can tell just by looking into his mischievous eyes. He is the only one of all the villains Sean Connery's Bond has fought who has no connection to the SPECTRE organization headed by Blofeld. His silent assistant, his right-hand man, is not far behind — a heavyset man of Asian appearance wearing a hat with a deadly blade on the brim. And it's kind of awkward to say that this entire creative team was successfully parodied in the Austin Powers series.

Let's not forget the famous death of a beautiful naked girl by “gilding.” Bravo, brilliant! I applaud you! This is truly one of those techniques that not only distinguished Bond from other films of this genre, but also elevated it to another, unattainable level of style.

The title music theme of the film is performed by Shirley Bassey - Goldfinger, and she will also perform songs for Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker, two more films from the 007 series. She is the only one who has performed so many musical compositions for the Bond series, in addition to breaking with tradition. Incidentally, the film won an Oscar for Best Sound Effects.

Speaking of sad things, Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, would not live to see the premiere of this film: he died of a heart attack on August 12, 1964, most likely as a result of problems with the producers over the copyright for Thunderball. But that's a story for another time...

James Bond will return in the film “Thunderball.”
