After receiving a sentence for rape and losing his star title, heavyweight boxing champion George Chambers finds himself in the notoriously brutal Sweetwater Prison, where the formidable Monroe Hutchen has been the untouchable champion for 10 years. Undefeated Chambers knows that there is no better boxer in the world than him, and he's ready to prove it. But Hutchen isn't about to lose either. This is a fight to the death.

Often, fighting movies are like porn. There is no plot whatsoever, and the center of the frame is filled with crude, unrefined action.

Undisputed is a pleasant exception. A boxer goes to prison, a boxer fights, a boxer gets out of prison. The plot is pretty thin, isn't it? But how it's presented! The focus shifts from one character to another, with back shots and beautiful transitions.

There is a certain classicism - unity of time, unity of place, unity of character action. A couple of months, Sweetwater Prison. The bad guy is Ice Man, a rapist who denies his guilt. (And he really is a rapist, perhaps without realizing it - remember the phrase ‘women love strength’.) The good guy is Monroe, a murderer. How good can a murderer be? A flashback reveals the reason for the murder, and the average viewer is sure to justify the hero.

At the same time, there are no “wooden” phrases or excessive pathos. The events unfold in a lively and vivid manner.

Paradoxically, there is no violence in a film about fights that take place in a maximum security prison. I can't remember seeing even a drop of blood. What's more, no one's neck is broken in close-up, no one is beaten to death with a shovel in the outhouse, no one is asked to bend over for soap in the shower.

There is honest boxing here. And it's beautiful. Yes, when two sweaty black men hit each other in the face, it's beautiful. If you don't believe me, watch ‘Not for Discussion’.
