An elusive thief named Diabolik steals from under the nose of the police either a bag of money or the precious jewelry of a rich person. The entire police department is in a panic, the matter goes to the minister, but no measures to catch the culprit help. Diabolik also has an accomplice who is always ready to help. After a successful case, they go down to their underground lair and indulge in lovemaking surrounded by a pile of 100-dollar bills. Is no one able to catch this villain?

Strangely enough, it was my interest in the 1997 animated series of the same name that made me sit down to watch this film. I had no idea what to expect, and I must admit, it was worth it!

The plot of the film is based on Italian comics, which are very popular in their homeland, about the exceptionally clever and elusive thief Diavolo and his companion Eva Kant. To be honest, the plot is very ambiguous, as if it had already been seen in many films, but in Diavolo, everything is presented in such an interesting, tasteful, and lively way that many fans of detective, spy, and crime novels will find the film interesting even today.

Among the actors and their characters, the main couple stands out: the cunning and clever John Phillip Lo (The Devil), whose glance and malicious laugh send shivers down your spine, and the charming seductress Marisa Mell (Eva Kant), whose “More” in that very scene is worth mentioning. There are sparks flying between these two! Also worth noting are their two rivals, Adolfo Celi (Ralph Valmont) and Michel Piccoli (Inspector Ginko), who unsuccessfully, well, almost unsuccessfully, try to catch and destroy the elusive Devil.

The film's musical score is also very pleasant. Ennio Morricone did an excellent job, as his music perfectly supports the atmosphere of everything happening on screen.

The film leaves a pleasant aftertaste, and the ending clearly suggests a sequel. It is a pity that it was never made, just as it is a pity that the actors who played the leading roles are no longer alive...
