Story Movie

Honolulu. An ordinary guy Sean becomes an accidental witness to the murder of a prosecutor by gangster Eddie Kim. A little later, assassins appear in Sean's apartment, and only the intervention of FBI agent Neville Flynn saves his life. Neville persuades Sean to fly with him to Los Angeles and testify against the bandit to put him behind bars forever. However, it's not in Eddie Kim's best interest to let such an important witness live. His handlers load the plane with a large number of poisonous snakes, which soon break free and begin to destroy everyone in their path.

Review 4K Movie

The film Snakes on a Plane (hello to domestic distributors) did not initially boast a fresh plot, a huge budget, or megastars in the lead roles. Nevertheless, the film became incredibly popular among Internet users even before its theatrical release. It is unclear why this typical B-movie caused such a stir among Americans that the creators were literally inundated with emails and the Internet with fan sites.

Perhaps the reason was the very fact that a film with a plot worthy of Lloyd Kaufman and his “Tromas” was being released in wide distribution, and even more so with Samuel L. Jackson in the lead role. Future viewers actively participated in the creation of Snakes on a Plane, and most surprisingly, the film's producers listened to their ideas and even went along with them: they tightened the rating, added bloody scenes and profanity, reshot several scenes, and added a couple of characters.

And what was the result?

The plot is as silly as the title: FBI agent Flynn (Jackson) transports a witness from Hawaii to Los Angeles who can put a dangerous mobster behind bars. Naturally, the mobster is against this arrangement. He decides to get rid of the unwanted witness, but instead of hiring a hitman or planting a bomb on the plane, he does something else. After all, all the best villains know that there is no more reliable way to kill someone than to sneak a hundred or two poisonous snakes onto the plane, which, at the right moment, under the influence of pheromones, will start biting everyone in sight.

Of course, the fearless FBI agent and the surviving passengers, including a group of rappers, a kickboxer, a silly girl à la Paris Hilton, and a dozen or so other two-dimensional characters, will have to fight the hungry predators...

The most surprising thing is that despite all the idiocy happening on screen and the abundance of clichés, it's incredibly fun to watch. The abundance of black humor (for example: the need to suck poison out of a huge boar's ass or a future death row inmate who manages to literally piss on a snake's head), Sam Jackson's charisma, and the abundance of hilarious characters who constantly quarrel and die in bizarre ways at the “hands” of crawling reptiles make watching it more than entertaining. All the components of a comedy horror film are in place, everything is filmed beautifully and spectacularly, the dialogues are full of wit, and the music is wonderfully chosen. The actors are also on point.

The result is an hour and a half of crazy fun for those who laughed at Gremlins, Tremors, and The Goofy Movie. In the words of John Malkovich's character from the cult film The Ripley Game, “I've never traveled first class like this before.”
