Story Movie

The film is set in the next century after a devastating war. The only entertainment for those who survived the nuclear disaster is brutal competitions—something between knight tournaments and gladiator fights. The team of the ruthless Sallow is striving to reach the top league, where winning is actually a matter of life and death.

Review 4K Movie

The impressions left by watching this film are extremely contradictory: at first glance, it seems like yet another low-budget piece of drivel about the bleak future of our planet (the film does not explain what brought the planet to such a sad state, but, as they say, no one really wanted to know), but now I'll try to figure out my second impression...
Of course, it's not a masterpiece. And it's hard to call it even a decent action movie. However, there is something captivating about it that draws you in and makes you watch until the final credits, and then, after some time, watch it again. And it's not even my admiration for Rutger Hauer; incidentally, among his films there are some that are so unwatchable that even I don't want them for free. There is simply something mesmerizing about all this impenetrable hopelessness, there are characters who have their own individuality and character and who are quite capable of arousing interest and empathy. The fight scenes are very realistic, and you can't help but worry about the outcome of the “match.”

Incidentally, the whole atmosphere of the film is painfully reminiscent of the good old Kin-dza-dza - the same desert all around, the same rags called clothes, the same city in the form of a rusty shed and countless floors underground. The authorities, who take all the earnings (money here is quite similar to ceramic shards) and before whom one must also grovel, fortunately did without squats, Hauer doing “three times ku” - a sight not for my psyche! Considering that Kin-dza-dza! came out three years earlier, some rather unpleasant thoughts come to mind. Although, maybe the authors just caught ideas that, as we know, float in the air?

I guess I'll forgive this, just as I forgave some other blunders, such as the fact that at the end, both of Zheltushnik's eyes are visible under his helmet, even though he lost the second one somewhere in the middle of the film.
