Story Movie

A deadly virus is brought from Africa to America by an infected monkey. Epidemiologists from the U.S. Army’s Infectious Diseases Research Institute, including Colonel Sam Daniels, rush to the epicenter of the outbreak. Two of Sam’s superiors—high-ranking military officials—hide from him the fact that they are aware of this virus, which they have been developing for several years. Moreover, they have nearly developed a serum capable of neutralizing the virus. To prevent a devastating epidemic, they need the serum, which can only be obtained from the blood of the original carrier—that very monkey. The situation is complicated by the fact that its whereabouts are unknown, and time is running out...

Review 4K Movie

It’s astonishing to see just how far a microscopic virus can spread, what global problems this could lead to, and what difficult times might lie ahead.
And it will all be the fault of a microorganism—it’s terrifying, but with the echoes of SARS and bird flu still ringing in our ears, the plot of the movie "Outbreak" doesn’t seem quite as far-fetched as it did just a few years ago.

The likelihood of this scenario isn’t the point; the movie already exists, and only time will tell how events involving deadly viruses will unfold.

Faced with this disaster, the government will remain silent, order the army to do something foolish, the general will order it to be carried out without fail—and in such a way that he won’t let the smart (every family has its black sheep) colonel solve all the problems. “He’s disobeying orders,” they’ll say, “the bastard is saving people, fighting the virus—oh, what a bad person, he must be eliminated…” etc.

In short, this is one of the plot elements of the movie "Outbreak", since a movie about a random virus doesn’t imply any negative characters (except for the virus itself), so the screenwriting team makes one character so bad that he stands out more than all the good ones. After all, a disaster movie has to have a bad guy or a coward who inevitably drags everyone down and drags the movie out.

Yes, specifically in a disaster movie—I think “Outbreak” fits the definition of this genre. The disaster isn’t global, and no more people die than on large ships, but it’s made with the atmosphere and spirit of disaster movies, and the director is one of those who has made this genre his own. Petersen, by the way, directed one weak disaster film this year—compared to “Poseidon,” “Outbreak” is a trendsetter and a genre giant.

Here, the ensemble cast delivers an incredibly stunning whirlwind of emotions and superb acting, fully bringing their characters to life. And it’s no wonder this cast was assembled from people with names that need no introduction: Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, Donald Sutherland, Cuba Gooding Jr., Rene Russo, and of course, Kevin Spacey. Legends of their era! Not all of them, but each embodies the cinema of the late ’80s... and to this day, while not everyone has had a smooth career trajectory, each has a number of worthy works to their credit besides "Outbreak".

“Outbreak” is like one big project; I don’t want to use grandiose terms to describe the film, since it disappoints me toward the end, but it is a decent film, even if the ending...

It all started in Africa, where the virus originated and lay dormant for 30 years without scaring anyone, until one day a monkey picked up this nasty bug... Meanwhile, in America, in a lab—thank the movie gods—not a secret or underground one near Alaska, but a simple one with high-level access (I have no idea what that means) and a wide variety of bacteria and microbes capable of turning the planet into nothing. Our heroes are working tirelessly in this lab.

It’s a battle between good (the best chemical and bacteriological doctors from the U.S. Army) and evil (a monkey, a virus, a U.S. Army general) that will come together in an unforgettable fight—not for life, but for death. The outcome, as we know, is often the same, but the main question remains: how will it come to be? Will it be honorable, or will it involve inexplicable events? Generally speaking, in the disaster movie genre, the achievement itself isn’t as important as the journey toward the goal, and there are two goals: on the one hand, to destroy; on the other, to save.

Of course, some will say the film is full of clichés, but I don’t care—I’ll say it’s in the tradition of the genre; I’ll say many years have passed since "Outbreak"; I’ll say they’ve learned a thing or two since then. I won’t stay silent; the film deserves to be mentioned and talked about, even though nearly 12 years have passed, and even though so many disaster movies have been made since then that "Outbreak" doesn’t even come close. But if you go back to 1996 and watch this movie then... - Ugh, movie theaters weren’t equipped with modern gadgets back then; it’s better to watch it at home these days.

Still, even now, after a slew of great disaster movies, the film holds up well, primarily because of the actors involved, but the plot is interesting in its own way and remains relevant thanks to the birds.
