We are reunited with Mr. Miyagi, a wise and experienced martial arts master from the island of Okinawa who once trained the talented young Daniel. This time, Mr. Miyagi takes a girl under his wing to raise and train her! His new student is the granddaughter of an American soldier who saved Miyagi’s life during World War II. Julie is struggling in school, doesn’t get along with her mother, has gotten mixed up in trouble with bullies, and has turned against the whole world. Miyagi will help Julie let go of her anger and teach her to put maximum power into her strikes. It won’t be easy for Julie, because in addition to her enemies—the school bullies—the young karateka will have to face their adult leader, the school coach, and the villain.

So, the previous installments of "The Karate Kid" starring Daniel-san have already cemented their cult status, and I’ve personally watched those three films more than once. But I never expected there to be a fourth film continuing the karate theme, this time with a girl in the role of the student (which is odd, considering the film is from 1994)...

But let me reassure you right away—this film shouldn’t be written off, and having a girl in the lead role has made the movie more interesting and diverse, though the creators haven’t abandoned the traditional elements of the previous installments either.

So, we’re in for another dive into the world of training, car polishing, a gang of bad guys, learning the wisdom of karate and fighting skills, and yet another fine example of Mr. Miyagi, who doesn’t like to fight but can easily take down a few big guys. A couple of funny scenes, heartwarming interactions, the appearance of a loyal friend, caring for a sick bird, and of course a fight—all of this is in the movie too. Don’t forget the unique mantra “the sun is shining—the grass is green” combined with proper breathing...

Pat Morita, playing the role of Mr. Miyagi once again—or rather, for the fourth time—delighted audiences with his polished portrayal of the karate instructor. Hilary Swank was also a delight—she looks so young and pretty here, and she’s very, very convincing as a not-so-diligent but good-natured schoolgirl with a bunch of problems.
