After a very successful in all respects movie "The Karate Kid", a sequel would be inevitable. It took only two years, and he came out on screens. Surprisingly, the box office was even higher than the first part. Although the film itself was still slightly worse than the original. But first things first.

The plot differs from the original quite strongly, and this is very good, because self-repetition is much worse. At first, the storyline is very interesting. Our hero goes to Japan with his teacher, whose father dies. There are a lot of interesting things going on there, a lot of details are told about Miyagi's past.

Pleased with a fairly large number of very clever thoughts. The first half of the tape especially pleases with this, when Miyagi speaks clever phrases at a record speed on screen time. I especially remember the moment with relaxation, very good advice. And the meaning of the whole tape is that you need to be able to prevent a fight, and if it didn’t work out, then try to come to a compromise. On the semantic side, this is one of the best films of the entire franchise, if not the best.

But there is one major problem. It feels like screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen wrote all the fun in the first half. But then the ideas started to run out, and things got much worse. The plot in places gives off delirium, and in general causes boredom. The rivalry between Miyagi and Sato looks very strange. Despite the fact that the timing has decreased, viewing was much harder. And also, the love line completely killed, or rather, how they completed the one that began in the first part.

The good news is that John G. Avildsen is also the director. The film was shot at the same quality level as before. The video sequence is very good, the work of the cameraman James Crab is pretty good. The battle scenes are excellent. The atmosphere is good. The soundtrack is even better than in the first part, although the main melody is still missing. Strange, but this part seemed to me the most lyrical and sad in the series.

Acting work pleased even more than expected. Best of all played, of course, Pat Morita, he is great as always. Ralph Macchio was pleasantly surprised, played even better than in the original, although his character is much simpler here. Well, Tamlyn Tomita played well.
