Once upon a time there was a calm, not very successful businessman named Fernand and did not grieve, as they say. And this guy had a best friend. Yes, not simple, but the most important mafia.

And then one day this mafioso decided to die, and just before his death he asked his non-criminal sidekick Fernand to look after his daughter Patricia, and, at the same time, the whole gangster empire.

Fernand took everything as it should - he in nature decided to take all matters into his own firm hands. But the former friends of the dead "king" were not at all going to show their solidarity with such a stupid dying expression of will and declare war on the "heir" ...

The plot of the film can be characterized by paraphrasing the words from 'Gentlemen of Fortune' about the daughter of 'the owner-huckster'. The owner of the auto repair shop Monsieur Fernand Nadine (Lino Ventura) arrives at the call of his old friend. It turns out that he is the head of the gang, he dies and bequeaths to his friend not only the place of the leader, but also entrusts him with taking care of his adult daughter, who is unaware of the true activities of his father, and all her future prospects in the company of his colleagues are to be sent to panel. Monsieur Fernand Nadine finds himself in the center of gang squabbles, trade in burned alcohol and partying of the bandit's eccentric daughter. Fortunately, he is a veteran of the Second World War, as well as the French War in Vietnam, and can stand up for himself.

A light film-parody of a noir detective story, where the comic nature of what is happening is balanced by shootings, and the director, as it were, deceives the viewer, setting him up for a serious drama at the beginning. And Lino Ventura plays his character in all seriousness.

The film is curious in that it is a clear predecessor of the French comedies of the 80s: Four Hands, The Unlucky, The Runaways, etc. An excellently selected ensemble of actors, a well-conveyed feeling of post-war life, when among the bandits there are former partisans or defeated Germans, and natural Frenchmen do not disdain burning alcohol. An unexpected surprise - a parody of Schaeffer's 'specific music' in one of the episodes (a visit to Patricia's fiancé's apartment).
