Many years ago, a playful little boy hid in a Santa Claus sack and traveled to the far North Pole. Once among the elves, the poor kid was adopted by one of them, named Buddy, and now, years later, he's trying to establish himself in the complicated world of magical pygmies. One problem: he's too tall and conspicuous to be a real elf.

In the countries where Santa Claus comes down to the fireplaces at Christmas, they believe that his main helpers are elves. They are a little fairy tale people who make toys for all the children of the world. The movie "Elf" (2003) tells us the story of one unusual helper of Santa.

Once upon a time there was an "elf" named Buddy. That is, he thought he was an elf. In fact, he was a man who, as an infant, happened to be in Santa Claus' bag when he visited an orphanage. However, raised in the North Pole, Buddy dutifully studied the Elf Code, made toys, and tried to be helpful. And all was well, until one day he learned the secret of his origins. Moreover, it turned out that Buddy's father not only does not know about his existence, but he is on the list of villains. So the "elf" decides to find him and teach him how to have a "proper" Christmas.

In a green suit and yellow tights, with a funny hat on his head and shoes with a twisted toe on his feet, Buddy goes to New York, where everything is very different from the world in which he grew up. Cars, elevators, escalators - on the one hand frighten, but on the other hand delight the "elf", because it's all new to him. Buddy finds his father on one of his first days in the Big Apple. But he does not believe the story that the man who showed up at his work in a masquerade costume could be his son, and kicks the poor "elf" out. Nevertheless, failures do not stop Buddy and he tries to "get through" to his father time after time.

As the saying goes, water cuts stones. In the end his father Walter, having confirmed his kinship with the strange man in a green hat by DNA-test, introduces him to his present family - his wife Emily and his son Michael. "Elf" easily finds common language with new relatives, but relations with his father are strained, because Buddy continues to behave as a hero of children's books, and his father - a pragmatist to the bones.

At the same time, Buddy also meets a girl named Jovi, who he likes very much, as she is unlike anyone he has ever met before. She wins him over, and he slowly but little by little begins to like her. In general, Buddy makes new friendships quite easily, as he is open to the world and willing to learn new things from others, while also teaching them what he himself has learned from the elves at the North Pole.

In the end, what Buddy was able to teach others helped him make friends, save Christmas, and become a true elf. A kind story that teaches us that if you are kind to those around you, you can find good friends, if you do your job well, you can succeed at it, and if you believe in a miracle, it will happen.
