The bard and adventurer Edgin Darvis escapes from prison together with his military friend Holga and sets out to see his daughter, who has been in the care of his former partner in crime Forge. On arrival he discovers that the latter, aided by the suspicious sorceress Sophina, has not only grown immensely rich and become governor, but has also turned his daughter against her father and in general is not against getting rid of Edgin and Holga. Having managed to fight off the executioners, the desperate pair plan a terrible revenge, and for this they will have to team up with the absent-minded wizard Simon, the nimble druid Doric and find the lost magic helmet.

With joy at heart and warmth in my heart I can safely say that the fresh adaptation of the cult tabletop role-playing game succeeded in the glory. And not only as a transposition into the realities of cinema known mechanics and the most curious moments in which most players fell, but also as a good adventure comedy action, which gathered everything that was needed: spectacular spells, hilarious moments, charismatic and, most importantly, very diverse characters, which made a great team.

Bard - the leader, planner and voice of the team, inspiring it to the most reckless deeds, occasionally playing the lute. Barbarian - straightforward, silly warrior with a wounded heart. Paladin - the mighty and noble knight whose high-handedness and virtue looks both amusing and admirable. The sorcerer and druid are just spirits, great spellcasters, and prime assets in achieving their goals. The rascal is a typical outlaw, ready to sell anything and everyone for his own gain. They are all played by the nicest actors who fit perfectly into their roles.

The textbook characters are seamlessly blended into the storyline, and in two short hours, each of them reveals their strengths. They are very simple but three-dimensional, and it is not difficult to empathize with them. Especially at the moment when they finally become a full-fledged team. The plot twists are built on the backstories, and the main conflict wraps around them very neatly, making overcoming personal problems one of the main components on the road to victory.

Winning is about "Honor Among Thieves" in general. The film came across as an interesting fantasy with a face of its own and a big world, in the making of which the film crew didn't hesitate to use animatronics, which is already rare. But also for the popular trends of cinematography "Dungeons & Dragons" also kept up, they look here to place and do not cause rejection. This is a very fun, funny, big movie that tries to surprise and show as much as it can. This sometimes becomes a problem: the confusion of the action prevents you from focusing on anything in particular, which makes some scenes look a lot more bland than they could have been.

Avid fans of the original without much difficulty remember their unsuccessful saving throw, the iconic spells, meetings with superior in strength and experience temporary companions, the typical story tricks gamemasters and campaigns in especially dark dungeons in search of powerful artifacts. The average viewer, on the other hand, won't notice half of the completely unfamiliar references, and that's fine - everything is built in as authentically as it could be, preserving the signature spirit of the best Dungeons & Dragons adventures.

It's a charming movie that you want to love with all your heart, even if you can find a couple of faults in it. It is just like its characters: not perfect, but so soulful and creative. But most importantly, it makes you want to come back to the gaming table and be part of the company of adventurers again in a magical world filled with bubbling emotions from critical failures and successes. That's exactly what a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation was meant to be. That's exactly what it became.
