Every morning Louise has to go to the same fast-food restaurant as a waitress. She has a "boyfriend" - a musician, who often forgets about his beloved while touring roadside eateries. The energetic and formerly cheerful Thelma, married to Darryl, found that a woman's place is in the kitchen with the pots and pans, and a man's place is in the chair in front of the TV.

Of course, the women are not happy with such a life, and one day their patience runs out. They decide to get away from the "sick and tired" town and their hateful men. Unfortunately, on the way they have to commit a number of crimes, including murder. They are wanted all over America, and the girlfriends have only one thing to do - to get to Mexico by any means.

I don't like to label films as masterpieces or fake sketches. But for this film, it's a masterpiece of cinematography. Such a subtle way to show the relationship between people, their friendship, their spiritual connection, which does not break even under the onslaught of the law. So beautifully and dramatically set out just a 'trip to the mountains', ending with something so strong and bursting into the flesh that it becomes unbearably sad, right to the point of madness, to the pain in the temples and trembling in the knees. Only a master of his craft, Ridley Scott, has managed this.


Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) are elderly women who have settled their lives, who have experience, fears experienced, a dull existence, but have not lost the will to live. Asleep, but so fiercely wanting to wake up that they succeeded. With eyes wide open, they burst into this life to shake up the world, to overcome themselves, to prove to themselves what they are capable of for each other, to make themselves available to all the winds that tear the weight off their shoulders and blow right into the soul.


I keep thinking about those looks they used to cheer up in difficult moments, those smiles they used to leave behind them, looking forward and upward, moving downward by societal standards. To spit on the foundations, to open their laws, and to advance so deep that there would be nothing left to desire but the images they would leave in the minds of those who no longer await them.


One becomes sad and comes to resent the men who have fallen so low as to agree to part with their honor, to let them rummage through the things left behind by their 'beloved wives and mothers. For their own sake, for their own good, to betray those who had been faithful to them until they realized that there was nothing to believe in. That the gray rock will never turn into a green sprout.


It is simply impossible to imagine and all the more impossible to resist. It is so real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real that it doesn't get worn out and boring to the eyes and smell like a piece of stale and boring blueberry pie. This is life. And they lived it the way their small but deep hearts in their love and devotion to each other told them to, not the circumstances.
