Six enterprising dwarfs arrange a grandiose journey through the tunnels of time for an ordinary boy named Kevin. The thing is that the tiny bandits have taken possession of a magic map that belonged to their former master - the Supreme Being who created the world.

With the help of the cherished map they travel from one epoch to another and get into the most amazing situations: they find themselves in the company of drunk Napoleon Bonaparte and King Agamemnon, set sail on a sea monster ship and the ill-fated Titanic, visit Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest and try to escape from the confinement of the Eternal Void.

"Time Bandits" is the second independent movie of Terry Gilliam. When creating this work, the director even then shows a vigorous imagination and fantasy. The movie is made for children, so it simply does not do without unexpected, bright techniques, amazing characters, fantasy plot. Gilliam expands the limits of consciousness, showing a fantastic story that will be interesting not only for children, but also for adults.

This is manifested in the staging and scope of scenes, colorful costumes, amazing scenery, bold finds. The movie develops very dynamically. One of the most intense scenes is the escape of the little heroes from the cage suspended over the abyss. The viewer watches breathlessly. An extraordinary scene! One of the most vivid in the movie.

Gilliam continues to use some humor in his film, but it is no longer a comedy or sketch show. It is an adventure where humor only occasionally accompanies some situations. However, if in the course of the plot and meets this or that joke, it is built extremely subtly and fully corresponds to the situation. This is how Gilliam's humor differs from the humor of the rest of the comic group 'Monty Python' - subtlety, elegance and appropriateness.

In 'Time Bandits', every scene is striking in its scope. The director shows what we may have imagined in our childhood or our wildest dreams, but he was not afraid to bring it to life. All these marvelous wonders also amaze with the mastery of technical execution. If the director was always complaining about how difficult it was to realize all the special effects simply because of the lack of necessary materials or money, his ingenuity deserves double praise!
