Review 4K Movie
The Wild West. A place that only seems quiet and deserted, but in fact everything is exactly the opposite and not a day goes by that a lone cowboy does not meet a group of farmers desperately asking for help, a gang of robbers and rapists adhering to the rule - what's mine, what's mine is mine and what isn't mine will soon be, Indians who would gladly scalp a pale-faced impudent, or an army of Southerners or Northerners who would look askance at any armed man who didn't join any of the warring parties. The Wild West was a lively place, despite the fact that people were dying by the dozens, if not by the hundreds. And it just so happens that a lone cowboy named Clint Eastwood...ummm I was going to say Hogan, of course Hogan! So Hogan meets three scumbags who decide to have a little fun with a lonely lady. Naturally, according to the good old tradition, Clint Eastwood's hero talked to antisocial elements, and after such a nice conversation, the hardened scoundrels decided to give their souls to God and died soon. Well, what do you want? This happens in movies with Clint Eastwood's participation all over the place. The girl who was saved by the young hero turns out to be a nun ... That's unfortunate. After all, Hogan is not accustomed to work for free, and even more unselfishly help strangers, and what can you take from a nun? She's given herself to the service of God. Talking a little, Clint Eastwood's hero was about to leave, but the nun, called Sarah asks the hero for one more favor - to take her to the “Huaristas”, the Mexican liberation army that fights against the arbitrariness of the French invaders. Clint Eastwood's hero thought about it and decided to escort a strange nun to the destination, eventually there is a chance that he will be well paid. So begins the incredible adventures of two such different heroes, and here is where these adventures will lead the heroes will answer the movie itself, not me.
So, a very rare beast appears before us. Its rarity lies in the fact that the central role in it is given to a girl... *A rotten tomato flies at the author of these lines* Hey, wait to throw stale products! I have nothing against the presence of girls in this genre and let's say “True Grit” and later its remake in the face of “Iron Grip” are worthy representatives of the genre. There's a different point here. In the westerns most often appeared severe shooters, who either as John Wayne stood guard of the law, or as Lee Van Cleef this law was broken, well, and there was Clint Eastwood, who was somewhere in the middle and was what is called - not yours, not ours, and the man himself on his mind. United all these heroes one circumstance - they were always the center of the story and if the picture and appeared in the beautiful lady, it was only a nice addition to the picture, but not the main character. And that is why it is so unusual to see a movie where the central role is given to a beautiful woman, who though preaches forgiveness, but her iron will, sharp tongue, and resourceful mind allow the heroine Shirley MacLaine to stand on the same level with Clint Eastwood, and it is not yet known to whom the viewer will give his preference - a harsh and cynical cowboy, or a resourceful nun, who hides many secrets about herself.
Also the rarity of this movie is that the plot here is necessary for a tick... *Another stale tomato flies from the side of the gallery* What is it! Who did this? *All right, I'll pretend I didn't see that and get back to the review. So, Sarah and Hogan will face bandits, French troops, rattlesnakes, Yaqui Indians, as well as the Mexican liberation army, but all this is perceived only as a background, as a tribute to the genre, while the main highlight of the movie is the difficult relationship between the characters of Clint Eastwood and Shirley MacLaine, whose characters, and dialogues too, were written above all praise. And by that it is not so important whether Sarah and Hogan will be able to stop the train full of gold bars, and to what their next bickering and confrontation of characters will lead, because thanks to such quarrels the viewer learns about the heroes a lot of interesting things and the hero Eastwood can no longer be called just “A man without a name” because he has, as the past, and the present, and dreams of the future, as well as, however, can not call the heroine McLain just a nun, because despite the ideas of forgiveness, the girl received on the cheek is not going to set the other, and prefers to answer the hook from below.
As for the musical accompaniment, you know, that's what it is, but with it there was never a problem in the movies with Clint Eastwood, what to say about this picture, the music to which was written by the great and terrible Ennio Morricone. Bright, cheerful and with fire - these are the words that come to mind when the opening melody of the movie touches your ears.
