Pokemon is one of the most famous franchises in the world. She made an incredible contribution to pop culture, based on her many different animated series, animated films, video games and more. And from this it becomes even more surprising that Detective Pikachu is the first adaptation of the beloved franchise. But did the creators manage to make a decent entertaining movie? It depends.

It’s worth clarifying right away that the film is detective, so the plot and script are of paramount importance. On paper, Detective Pikachu is an adaptation of the game of the same name, but something tells me that with the game the film has many differences, and by itself, I will evaluate the film as an independent work. The plot of the film is straightforward, but when viewing it, you are unlikely to be very bored. But you will definitely be perplexed by the plot holes, understatements and illogicalities. They are small here and they are striking. A large number of plot holes for the detective is very bad. Also lame motivation in the characters, in almost all characters. Here is more detailed. The protagonist is Tim Goodman (Justice Smith), a former “coach” Pokemonov receives news of his father’s death and comes to the city for ... for ... for that ... um, to pick up his things? Well, here is the classical scheme, the problem of fathers and children, the father did not give him time, Tim pretends that he does not feel sorry for his father, but in the end it turns out that he still loved him. This story line is read from the first minutes and because of this it seems unrealistic (it is) and simulated. Tim meets Pikachu, who was the partner of Tim’s father, but bad luck, Pikachu lost his memory. Also in the plot, the hero’s love interest flashes, which appears so suddenly that it seems that this is some kind of practical joke. She is so well revealed, spelled out and motivated that I did not even remember her name. (And her name was generally pronounced in the film?). There are a couple more characters, but their mention will be a spoiler, so I limit myself to the fact that they are not disclosed at all, not motivated and are walking jesters. Oh well, this is a movie about Pokemon!

The Pokémon in the film are beautiful, they are elegantly made from a visual point of view, and it's nice to watch them. Pikachu is beautiful. He is funny, cute, funny and more interesting than human characters. In general, Pokémon are shown very spectacularly and impressively. But there are some minor flaws. A stranger to Pokemon viewers will not be told at all about the abilities and capabilities of at least some Pokemon and Pokemon very little. I would like to see more Pokémon in the frame, as they are very cute and attractive (unlike the main characters). In general, with the plot and characters there is a dilemma, if you look at the details, separately, then everything is bad, but if you look at the big picture, then everything is not so scary.

Atmosphere. A very important detail of any film. The creators had a difficult task - to show utopia, where people and Pokemon live together. Did they do it? Again, everything is debatable. It seems that scenes are shown where people and Pokemon work together, but not fully disclosed, without details.

Concluding, I can say that the whole film turned out like this. Not good, not bad, not chic, not terrible. Fine. Just fine. If you have absolutely nothing to do, as I did when I went to this film, then you can go. Time will fly by quite quickly, you will not have negative impressions, but no more. Squeeze the atmosphere, the script ... there are always problems with the script ... However, the film turned out to be good and it brought me a modest share of pleasure, and in general the film came out rather good than bad.
